Hearthbuddy will not launch at all. No UI visible, no error messages

Ive received my key via email, unziped the file into a new folder, and when I execute the .exe file nothing happens, no ui, no error messages. So far ive disabled avast, and i cant think of what esle i can do. did i just pay for a lemon?
