Hearthbuddy freezes on startup

I've installed Hearthstone and Hearthbuddy on a fresh Win 8 install, the buddy dependency wizard was installed also. Hearthbuddy freezes on startup. Any ideas?

any antivirus/firewall enabled?

Yes, I've disabled them both with same results. When I start Hearthbuddy the config window pops up and I can select the drop down and use the default, then when I select it freezes.
