HB will not start after long intialization

Here's the behavior.

Honorbuddy takes a long time to get past the "Logging In..."
Then it takes a long time to get done "Initializing Spell Manager"
Once it finally finishes, it won't "Start"

Things I have tried / confirmed
  • Fresh build
  • Deleted Singular from Routines
  • WoW is windowed, 32 bit, run as admin
  • HB is run as admin
  • .NET is up to date
  • All sessions killed via BuddyAuth
  • No addons loaded
  • Rebooted multiple times

I did have it working earlier for a brief period of time (25 minutes or so) but network went down

Is there any hope for me Obi Wan?

I have never seen anything like this.

The first thing I would try is moving the HB installation out of the C:/Users filesystem (the Documents and Desktop folders are under the C:/Users filesystem). Put it someplace like C:/Games/HB. Some explanation as to why, here.

Currently, I don't believe the problem lies in HB, but elsewhere (Windoze). The non-severe things I would check are:
  • Try switching your WoW from DX9 to DX11, or vice-versa
  • It could be a network problem.
    Maybe you are on a 'bus structured' (e.g., cable or wifi) network, and a neighbor is hogging too much bandwidth, or maybe your ISP is simply having problems. Superficially, it looks like this shouldn't affect HB startup, but (personal conjecture) HB might be spawning a thread trying to do networking things in the background, and this is bogging it down internally.
Alas, the only other things I can think it might be are pretty severe:
  • Could your HB be installed on a failing hard-drive? (The Windoze event viewer may help you with this)
  • Any chance you've had a Firefox locking up with a 'runaway script' warning?
  • Since you've rebooted a few times, it may be time to make sure you haven't contracted a rootkit or virus? In particular, a rootkit will hide its activity and CPU-stealing-cycles from you.
I'm very sorry I don't have a more definitive answer for you. If you do figure this out, please post back so we'll learn from it if the problem ever occurs again.

Switching to DX9 seems to have worked. I'm running Win8 (until I can revert back to Win7..), so thought it needed to be set to DX11.

Glad it was fixed.
DX9 support was added to HB for Win8 recently.

hey... im having the same problem. just tried switching to directx9. im on windows 7 though. and after switching to directx9 the bot finally loads up and i can run it. however the graphics are messed up. cant see any trees and where the trees should be are black squiggly lines. lol. its weird. some models just arent showing up now. any advice?

Edit: also im in hyjal and some models like the screeching umm the flying lady humanoids? lol. and lava surgers. and all creatures. they won't show up. only the health bar above them but no models

Hi, Ethanschatz,

Glad you've gotten a little further down the road. The problem you describe here sounds like a classic 'video driver needs updating' problem. Once you've got it up-to-date, there may be some video driver tweaks, or compatibility settings, you need to make. Nvidia is really good about doing this (compatibility with specific programs) as part of their driver; others, not so much. (And not trying to start an Nvidia vs ATI vs whatever war. :D )

If you're drivers are up-to-date, you'll have to use Google, and hope others have already solved the problem. Which most likely they have.

Well dang... my driver is up to date. I just checked the nvidia website. :/ that's so weird. the bot has been working so well the past week that i've had it. just randomly today having the problem.
