we have nothing to hide

You, the company, no.
Us, your customers, yes.

I thought it might be in your best interest to attempt to protect the privacy of your customers, but I guess I assumed too much by the clear cut way you dismissed a simple idea.

It's not our fault that you've created edited addons and profiles for the community right? all we do is just edit some xmls and maybe programm some logical variables and loops and btw if some ppl wan't to find you they will, its the internet n stuff.

Why would this help?

Im pretty sure blizzard have a copy of the bot to see how it works, probably to try and reverse engineer it or something.

First, I never created anything.

Second, I never said he couldn't find me. I said he couldn't touch me.

Third, it's not about that. I couldn't care less about TSM's author, but him posting has made me aware of how everything we do, and say is being watched.
Which was obvious by the time blizzard had prints from here on their legal docs, but that was expected.

This time is different. People here post everything they do, and how they do it. People can use that information against them to track and report them.

I don't sell gold, I'm a business manager, I make more than enough money IRL. I couldn't care less if HB goes down or I lose an account or two.
But others do. I just bot for fun.

EDIT: This isn't about Blizzard. It's about not instructing the common player that may wonder here.

Providing a 'users' only forum only serves to provide a FALSE sense of security, imo. Blizzard can afford the $30+ for a license to the bot and am sure have spent money on a number of licenses to try and figure it out.

By having a license they would therefore have access to the 'users' only section and could still see everything you are attempting to hide. And in the meantime, random visitors become convinced that they are safe posting whatever they want b/c, after all...it's for 'users' only.

people have to get it through their head that if blizz really cared that much about whats going on in these forums they wouldnt hesistate to spend 30 bucks out of their billions to take a peak. as long as you keep your information private and dont post you character names and server they are on you will be fine, now get over it. ive botted 3 guys to 85 24/7 BAN ME BLIZZ... oh wait you have no idea who i am who my chars are or what servers their on.. drats im so worried now.

wait...you mean r0bay isn't your account or character name? d'oh! :p ;)

by making a dislcaimer before they enter forums will fix blizzards issue. Stating. "By clicking enter you are you are agreeing that you are not a blizzard/activision employee"

So there for they cannot bring anything up on forums in court ^_^ dno if that is completely legit but wouldnt hurt to look into it.

It's not about blizzard accessing your information, it's about general users learning our antics.
How do you people not understand it? I thought I made it clear.

Blizzard will pay a thousand bucks for a license if they have to. Joe, the bot hunter, that just wants to know more about us, will not.

Let me give you an example:

Badboy Anti-Spam [Addon] - Change it to level 86 and change the respond text to "You must be on my friends list to chat with me"

That's from Kick's profile thread. Let's say you do this, you get the addon and make it say this.
Now, Joe the bot hunter knows all about us, he sees you and suspects you might be botting due to the numerous buggy behaviors that have been reported here.
He whispers you and gets this response.

Now Joe the bot hunter will not fall for this, he'll report you and paste a link to this in the ticket. And you're now banned.

Of course, that's quite an extreme dramatization. I'm just trying to make a point.

We're all on the same team, and this was just an idea. But we do need to be aware that people are watching us, and what's said here WILL be used against us.

not if you put the disclaimer there i believe they are not allowed to go past the point and anything they get past it cant be used legally.....but i know your point and would still be worthless. everyone in wow knows what bots look like even my brothers 15 year old kid spots them out all day.

eh, that makes a valid point. wouldn't hurt i suppose...just not sure how much it REALLY helps either. the disclaimer would not hold up for blizzard employees either, since you are violating their EULA.

ok, lets take an example from recent history, GLIDER
the glider forum was closed off to the public, you had to enter your key on the forums. that didnt stop blizzard from having a watchfull eye on the forums.
glider was $5 a month, you really think they couldn't afford it? to reverse engineer the program and figure out how it worked to combat it?

closing the forums off did nothing really.

To Prove i was Legit!

So, for your sake, don't share it.

Its not HB or anyone elses responsibility to protect you. Yea I understand what you said just fine & would like to see more discretion from other users also, but I have no control over that so I'm not gonna let it bother me :)

theres a reason why we have rules like, not posting character or server names, or personal information. its to protect you guys. that being said, after that its just about common sense.

Blizz

I think it's funny that everyone is saying that blizzard is "trying" to figure the bot out. You really think they can't? Think about it, think about who they are, they are a HUGE gaming & technology corporation, if they wanted to pay some of the world's best programmers to reverse engineer HB they could (Again, blizzard, they probably have some of the "best" [Hard to use a word like that when it comes to programming in general] programmers in the world working there.)

Don't ask me why bans are so rare for HB, it's updated extremely frequently so that could have something to do with it, but as for them "trying" to figure it out... It's probably not incredibly hard for them.

With a two whole posts.

Attempting to block out Blizz by having some User Agreement disclaimer shit isn't gonna work.
It just won't. Glider has proven that (just as CodenameG said).

I never intended to block Blizzard. That's impossible and I already said that.
My idea was to block the general users that might come wander here to look more into us.

Blizzard will always be monitoring this no matter what.
