HB Registry Cleaner

Hi Devs,

I'm just experimenting with HB today and discover that your installer left a bunch of entries in the registry with the text "HonorBuddy" in it. Furthermore, when uninstalled, your installer didn't clean it. Blizz may or may not use it as a red flag. I think it would be helpful too to remove the word " - Attached to WoW with ID 4132" in the window title.

Could you please review and maybe create a little tool that cleans the entire registry from any entries with the word "HonorBuddy"?

I clean it myself but it will be better if the dev come up with the tool as I don't want to accidentally corrupt my registries.

By chance could you tell us where the registry keys are located, I could probably make something up real quick to remove those entries and put it on GitHub for the community.
 
There are plenty of 3rd party tools out there that can clean that sort of stuff up if your worried..

99% or programs installs will leave traces of themselves in the Reg, its not uncommon at all, nor do these programs provide a reg cleaner to remove these entries.. So I think its safe to say- we shouldn't expect bossland to produce one either.

Also.. I think there is no need to worry.

If you do search the entire registry with keyword "HonourBuddy" you'll see them

True that I can work it out myself but this is a relatively simple tool to write for the devs and it's safer if it comes from the devs. It's not expected of course but it's a nice gesture from Bossland to show that he cares.

This may or not may not be a red flag but it gives us a nice warm fuzzy feeling if the application can be a little bit more discreet, especially since we're being almost exclusive being targeted by Blizz.

The little things such as,
- Cleaning the registry of traces the word "HonourBuddy"
- Removing the word " - attached to WoW with ID xxxx" in the form/window title.
- etc

They're relatively simple improvements until we move to 64 bit. On that topic, yes the 64 bit doesn't make much difference than 32 bit but much more work in development and the method of detection is the same regardless. However, as someone has point it out that by moving to 64 bit, we'll be part of a much bigger pool of users than 32 bit. Safety in numbers.
The point, the application should try its best to be discreet and hide itself so it makes it harder to detect by simple mechanism

Old subject of discussion but the app really do need to be kept improving or else it'll be a sitting duck.

Blizzard looking into your computer is an invasion of privacy and they are not allowed to snoop around if i recall correctly, i wouldn't worry.

This is an assumption that they will play by the book, word for word. They may also discovered a gray area whereas they can scan certain things in our PC without being classified as invasion of privacy.

AFAIK, the EULA does specify that we're allowing them a certain kind of scanning.

The point is, why tempt fate and rely on assumptions? We should cover our bases as much as possible.

The Windows Registry is not a gray area, its the same as RAM space.

Blizzard are not allowed to scan outside their dedicated memory space.

If they actively violate it or have such capabilities on the WoW client, any decent security expert could get proof for it, after reverse-engineering, and Blizzard would take much more damage after the lawsuit, than the "damages" they have from the botting accounts.

Even if they want to do it, they cannot do it without leaving any trace.
