Having trouble in combat

Im using a bot on my dk and when I am in combat he will only use howling blast. when he made his rune sword he never equipped it like he wasn't planning on ever using melee, and he doesn't. He won't auto attack or use any weapon related abilities. Also he wont fight back something that starts attacking him he will only fight things he targets for a quest and then only spams howling blast over and over.
