Alright well I went ahead and bought a pretty decent gaming laptop. I bought the x775-q7270 Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7270 Notebook PC ... Well this is the i5-2410m version and there is a optional i7-2630QM (x775-q7272). My question is does anyone know if the i5-2410m is upgradeable to the i7-2630QM? They are both 2nd gen i5/i7 processors. I think its the same socket. Anyone know what it would take to upgrade it like if there would be any bios problems or voltage problems (the i5 is 35w and the i7 is a 45w cpu)... Anyone that would know please share thanks! Any cooling upgrades that I would need to do? From what I know both of the laptops are the same minus more HDD space a i7 and a blu ray player...

most of the time they are BGA soldered to the board, and not user replaceable, the only way to tell is when you get it and open it up, and see if theres a socket, but its been years since ive seen a socket-ed processor in a laptop.

as far as cooling upgrades, there wont be any, since they design laptops with a certain thermal envelope in mind, there wont be any upgraded cooling parts available.

Usually, the most you can upgrade a laptop, is memory, battery, and *sometimes* HDD. The rest is pretty much soldered in place and unchangeable. If you want to be able to upgrade, get a desktop.

Well I msged a guy that sells i7 processors at a good price and this is what he said....

Hi,

Yes, its just a swap. (Do you know how to install a prcossor? Please remember to use thermal grease. And you can go to YOU TUBE to see how to install a processor. If you screw not tight enough, you will see white screen. If you screw too tight, the chip will *****ed. You can go to a computer shop and let them do it).

Basically no need to flash Bios or upgrade my PSU. For some laptops it might need.

cooling will works fine because you have a 17.3" big laptop. Don't worry at all. Temp. about 40~60 c.

the ES work just as good as OEM in most laptops. I remembe I have two Toshiba x775 customers upgradw successfully. Doon't worry, if any problem, I accpet returning in 7 days of receipt. I will refund you $163 (shiping cost is $15).OK?
