Goldfarming and RMT questions

So I am a big newbie when it comes to this sort of thing but I am about to sell some gil for cash. I was wondering a few things:

1. Is there a "safer" way to trade other than face to face? (I am aware it is risky)

2. Should I only be trading in small amounts or does the amount not change the risk?

3. If/when I do get banned, is it safe to create a new account on the same payment method or do they automatically watch that new account more closely because it is related to a banned account?

4. Any general tips on who to trade to or how to trade safely? Specific to FFXIV or just generally.

I always do trades via a virtual machine that is ***ed. Preferred method is they place items on sale via their retainer.
