I want to start a new account for gold farmer and trying to decide which server (realm) to choose. Does anyone have knowledge if the population is a factor in making gold. Is it best to choose a low, medium, or high population? On the one hand a low population has less competition for farmed items but also less buyers. Conversely high server populations have more competition in the AH but more buyers.
Which is best?
Thanks.

you need to do alittle more research i guess. some servers are like 92% horde based and then its almost impossible to sell something on the alliance side.

My advice would be to create a load of level 1 toons in different servers as horde and alliance and go and look at AH prices!

Yes gold prices may be slightly different but if you can earn twice as much on one server then on another then that'd be the one to go for

Google some big gold selling sites and look to see which servers they need most on

This.

If there are a few botters with high ah ambitions on a server, then you'll have a hard time getting your stuff sold. And it doesn't matter if it's a low/high pop, rp, pve/pvp server. So look for servers that don't offer that much herbs/ores. If there's always many stacks in the ah your presence will let the prices drop like shit.
I made the mistake choosing such a server and now make 1/3 to 1/2 of what I make on others. Gonna sell once now and then switch the server.

Thanks. I'll do more research and make some lvl 1's and check prices.

I did not think about the alliance or horde dominated realms, I can't see how that would matter though. The server my high lvl toons are on now the prices for ore and herbs are horrendous, they're practically giving the shit away. And I'm horde but the server is strongly alliance dominated. But I cannot see how that would matter.

Anyway, as it's been stated, I guess it is not really a matter of population or faction control, it's just about how many serious gold sellers are around, and in general the level of competition, which can be anywhere. I'll do my research.
Thanks.

What I did was go to some major gold buyers and see which servers had the most demand and which servers of those had less suppliers.. I asked pusada hey, what servers do you have high demand on and need suppliers.. it worked out pretty well, I farm on my main server and on the server they recommended.. I sell out every week on their recommended server and I'm 233k overstocked this week on my server.. so yeah. I'm starting up a 3rd server but that where my buddy and his RL friends play so I'm hoping to get private buyers in his friends, my buddy is already giong to be buying.
