GM whisper/ protocol

Got a curious whisper that referenced my toon by name asking if i 'was there' while grinding my low 70 toon but i had dozed off for about 10 min. i replied right away but they were offline and armory showed no toon by that name on my realm. paranoid or a GM following up on a player report more likely?

True They Create a lvl 1 Character, Send a Bunch of people scam mails.
Than Logout Delete Character & Remake and just Repeat.
In the hope one just falls for it and logins on their phishing site.

actually been playing for 4 years and never have seen a gold seller use this type of communication or toon name but hey maybe they need to adapt......

Gold sellers don't phish, they legitimately sell gold... but there are so many chinese phishers out there, it's just... wow..

Anyways, I've gotten several messages pretty much just like that over the past week. Out of curiosity I replied to one. Apparently some gold seller is having a deal on getting you a rocket mount and a free month of wow if you spend like $100 on gold...

A few months ago they implemented a small blizz logo so that people can not fool others as beeing a game master. If a gamemaster contacts you it is not directly in the chat, there is a text telling you kind of "there is a gamemaster that wants to talk to you" or something and then you decide whether to open the chat or not.

Every other whisper you get from "blizzadmin" or shit like that..just ignore it.

I have found it depends on your realm. Some realms get hammered, others not so much.

well I have 3 to 5 such whispers every morning when my toon was running over night. and its allway the same shit:
- blizz has chosen you to get a special pet at www.xxxxxx
- hey XXX are you there? do you want want some extra money?
- dear customer in cause of security blablabla please join www.xxxx

well, thanks all. since there has been nothing since i'll assume it was just a new 'softer' flavor of in-game phishing or advertising. i think i've seen most and 99% are broken english, have links, or refer to gold in some way (which this had none of those). and since i have no in-game friends on this realm and new to botting i was a little suspicious.
