Just buy the contender's gear from the AH. It will give you the necessary ilvl to queue up and slay dragons.

As a hunter I got a latherworker to make me contenders head and belt, also with my engineering I made a dragon thingy and that got me to 440

The ilvl goes out of the crap u have in your bags as well so u dont have to have it equiped
