Hi!

my AMD is getting old and i think about a new CPU under my heavy noctua cooler.

the first question:
Why is the boxed version cheaper? O.o

the second question:
Which I7 fits best for my needs? budget ~300-400? (EU)
here you find the prices in my country: http://geizhals.at/?fs=Intel+Core+i7&in=

the third question:
would it be a good decision to wait for new releases? my hardware knowledge is only sponsored by google^^ is next gen CPU released soon? like a i8?

greetings

Iam dunno why boxed is cheaper. But no matter the price. ALWAYS buy boxed version! The boxed version has full warranty, the tray version only a half year. Also, if you overclock. With boxed you will never have any trouble with overclocking and warranty. But you can get trouble if you buy the tray, overclock it and your cpu breaks in this first half year ;)

Waiting? There is always a new version in the next 1-2 months. Botting for that time gets you more profit than waiting...

Sure its easy ;)

i7-3770K, K mean an open multiplicator. So you can overclock it like you want and its pretty easy. The limit is only your cooling. I have 2 of them and both are just with a good air-cooler @ 4,6ghz. With water 5+ is possible.
i7-3820, no K, means overclocking is in a limit possible, but very hard.

Take the 3770, its worth the extra 20 bucks ;) Also if you dont overclock. But who knows what do you want in few months.

Who cares about a few grad hotter or cooler? With his noctua he wont have any problems, also with overclocking if he wants. The bedder choice is the 3770k because of more potential, fact.

@Rocky

OK, let's say i'm going to trust you blindly... What cpu is best in your opinion for those bucks?

You've said, don't trust people on the net :P

a i7 2700k OC to 4.8GHZ *EQUALS OR SOMEWHERE NEAR* a i7 3770k OC to 4.5GHZ

so the heat is somewhat near the same.

go tom's hardware and search for the answer.

quick question, noctua nh-d14 or other?

End of the day, it boils down to how much are you willing to pay.

OR you could wait for the new generation CPU which is a few month later which is HASWELL
