Does HB mail protected items?

Hi guys, ive searched a few times for this topic but cant seem to find it anywhere.

I understand how to add items to the protected items list and i understand about mailing epic/blues and greens, but my main query is that if i add herbs/ leathers etc to the protected items list, will they get mailed to me alt?

Basically im trying to get all leathers/herbs n such mailed to an alt, but with all these things on protected items does this mean they will just fill up my bags instead of being mailed?

I understand that for example if i want to keep my gnomish army knife i add it to protected items, but what gets vendored/ mailed? thats the bit im having trouble with.

If you input <Force Mail>PUT ITEMS YOU WANT MAILED HERE</Force Mail> it will mail the items regardless of if they are protected
