Do wow monitor IP, account or character time?

I was thinking about running 3 accounts per server, 3 x 8 hour sessions to make 24 hours. For example, account one from 7am-3pm, second account from 3pm-11pm and account three from 11pm-7am. This means that each account is logged in for 8 hours which seems to be the 'max' time a gamer would play each day.
So my question is, do wow monitor how long your IP is logged into the game for which for the above scenario would be 24 hours, or do they monitor per account in which case only 8 hours. OR could you have three charictors on one account following the process above? (Im guessing that option is unlikely)
Thanks

Time spent in a zone by account. I saw this question answered by a GM in a interview. HBrelog is your friend.

There are an number of possible methods of detection. Previously they never really seemed to us IP address to hit other bots, but in D3 they have extensively so the days of them not using IP may be over. In reality who knows what they use, no one can tell you, so speculating about it is just wasted time and energy. All you are doing is asking what other people fear the most, when in reality you just need to quell your own fears.

Do what you feel is necessary to sleep at night. If that means not botting at all then stop botting. No one has the silver bullet, because no one knows when the hammer is going to come down until it already has.

I've been playing, manually, at least 12h per day since MoP release. Just sayin'...

Like the people above me posted, no one really knows for sure how they monitor it.

They monitor time spent in a zone per account and check for player reports.
