So I presume that your local 2nd-hand/used PC Market is suffering from the "Lemon Markets syndrome", where people are overpricing faulty parts and underpricing the higher end working ones, such that the legitimate sellers would rather scrap their PC than sell it and what you are left with are the shady, seedy sellers.

Don't think that one will have the time and money to travel 30 miles out to scout out on a possible deal.

that's where internet forums comes in play. singapore is a small country so buying/selling directly with another person is not really much of a chore especially when you have a vehicle. sometimes the seller might just deliver the pc to your place! :)

How does the seller guarantee that his goods are in working condition? Don't think he's gonna stick around for you test it at 99% load for 24/7 for the next week?

usually what i do is to purchase computer parts that still have an existing warranty in case of problems. most of the time the sellers are regulars in the forums so they have some sort of reputation that you can rely on. very rarely i get a defect hardware that breaks down in a few weeks time, even if it does there's warranty to replace the defective hardware.
