Have to agree. This is modified work belonging to AknA and permission was not given?
- Nice copy/paste of my addon functions (and then claim it your own).
- Thanks for not asking me or Sidalol if it was ok to do this.
- Great job at making the user have zero control over what HB do (as you just brute force it).

Where do you read that? You realise your code is distributed under the GNU license, ...
Indeed, the work was clearly released under GPLv3, which the author(s) had complete control over. This reboot is a fair use under the terms in which the original work was released.

Hi, Corleone,Not quite correct in my eyes.
The SVN link from Hans_S doesn't mention GNU license with any words and a GNU license hint is not distributed in the ZIP or at his SVN repository either.
I don't want to be holier than the pope, but it seems to be a new, selfmade product from outward views.

BTW:
It's common courtesy and decency to ask at least the author before the code is edited.
Seems that people more and more unlearn that unconsciously.
Modern times... Media brainwashing... miserable education... PISA... *sigh*
Hi, Roequasi,Screenshot
Uh. Yes it does. I don't mean to be an asshole (not entirely true), but get off your horse, and shut up. Your project is dead, you let it die, and someone picked it up. Let it go.
It is not common courtesy. If it looks like your project is dead, and someone picks up it, its fine. Stop being a pansy about this.
Hi, Roequasi,
All Community Developers have a right to be concerned about theft (i.e., someone violating the terms of the license the work was released under), and are free to express their concerns. The issue should be vetted, and that's all Corleone was doing. Expressing concern was the right thing to do.
In the past, we've had many examples of people outright stealing others' work and claiming it on their own, or taking the work in directions the author didn't want it to go. Depending on the license, not all projects are fair game to be picked up and built on. This is why licenses exist in the first place.
It is also courteous (even if not required) to give due credit to the original author for not only the code, but the ideas embodied. Nothing wrong with that.
There is no reason to become hostile because such concerns are expressed.
cheers,
chinajade
Apologies for mis-characterizing your reply. Not being hostile. Being honest.
You seriously misunderstand licenses then. Licenses are meant to do what their text states... not what you want it to say, or how you think it should be. Indeed, licenses can be used to prevent new development from the original code. But, you won't find such licenses in these forums, because the Bossland GmbH forum requires one of the approved open source licenses, if you wish to make work available here.Licenses are meant to prevent theft of ideas, not to prevent new development
Hans_S was right to do so. Also, the GPLv3 license requires this. But, its the right thing to do, nevertheless.roequasi;198 4883 said:Also, Hans_S gave a huge shoutout, twice in the original post.
Agreed. Its the license that gives you the permission (or denies such) to take and edit others' code. By selecting an appropriate license, the original developer prearranges for others to take and modify his code without the explicit need to contact him and ask for permission.Corleone said its common courtesy to ask before editing code. Thats simply NOT true.
That's not my intention...., not to prevent new development, which is clearly what Corleone is hoping to do.
Ok, now what annoyed me.
- I know what license I put on that work, and I know it doesn't require that he asks for permission, but it's still common courtesy in a community like this where I'm actually active to still do so.
- Asking for donation and claiming it your own work when you haven't added anything new as he only copied some lua functions to C# and added it to the plugin instead of the addon removing any customizasion and security for the user, to continue to build on a project is fine under the license, to copy/paste and release the same thing under your own name is not.
- Bruteforcing the code like he does with this plugin is only going to cause problem for the user as it has zero security and no pause between the macro commands it's easily detected by blizzard. As it's a macro command that is being sent and it will send multiple ones per second how long do you think it will take Blizzard to pick up on it ?
