I have been waiting for a decent deal to upgrade my Samsung 830 128GB SSD, because I am already out of space, and want to run more bots lol. Would've just got the Samsung 840 250GB, but the TLC was a big turn off... So placed an order, and going to give Crucial a try.

nice find, i have the 840 250gb found it @ microcenter while buying the rest of my comp, paid like $90 after 40 off for buying a mobo :)

Out of space for bots? The only space on a HD a bot should take up is the extra log files from DB. You should be using a launcher for d3 or I believe using Link Shell Extension crap you can have multiple d3's running off the same MPQs folder which will cut 11 gigs off each d3 copy (yet to test this).

Ya each instance of my D3 uses a seperate 3-4GB cache file. Would be nice to know how to make them all share the same folder.

If you want to experiment with link shell extension read this. I had d3 running while reading the mpq files off an sd card. I'm not sure if multiple d3's can read the same files with this method and work but it's worth trying.

Much easier method is using Apoc's d3 launcher. Small chance d3 patches will break this but Apoc has updated it shortly after. Had to make copies for a day last time tho, so the link shell trick may be a nice alternative.

I have the Mushkin Chronos myself, SSD's are well worth the money spent.

80 USD shipping to EU. This is madness :)

Are this SSD really worth it for botting? Isn't it better to spend money elsewhere like +16GB od Ram for example? I am putting like 10 EUR worth 80gb SATA drive into old botting rig.

d3 isnt that crazy of a game, i have the space so i have seperate installs , 1 on ssd (for when i actually played) ,rest are on HDDs, dont notice a difference in gph , the load times might be twice as long but theyre already <1s so i wouldnt buy one FOR d3, but they are amazing for everything else, OS especially

edit: but thats a nice deal, i paid 259 for my 128 ocz bout 2-3 years ago

one of my SSDs failed within 2 years, no warning.

but I still use them.

You got it right. I installed a Mushkin 90 gb ssd 2 weeks ago, windows, d3 and bot there. There was a slight improvement, but if you ask me, put your money elsewhere. RAM/good cpu/cpu heatsink/good (pk-1, diamond ic) thermal compound/MOBO(higher grade chipset) will affect your botting more than the HDD to SSD move. Also overclock and ram timings have (in my experience) more weight than ssd

Drive in original post is now up to $192. Same drive at Newegg is $169.99

As to if SSD or HDD is better for botting: The only SIGNIFICANT change you'll see is initial system startup. Yes, programs (in general) will load up a tiny bit faster. However, with regards to Wow, D3, and HB/DB, the SSD really won't give a significant increase. The game files will load at about the same speed on either an HDD or SSD, with internet bandwidth, 3d card, and server speeds being the limiting factor. As to bot files, they are so small that you'd be looking into fractions of a millisecond speed difference per file, and with a normal latency of 40+ms (I'm being generous, I get 128ms close to Blizzard's Boston servers), you'll again be looking at network as your limiting factor.

I'm not saying to avoid an SSD... They are great for system startup, and noise level from them is practically nonexistent compared to a spinning drive. If you're looking for performance though, as ad3dd said above, look to up your processor and RAM (both usually hand in hand with upgrading your motherboard), then processor cooling so you can get better overclock. (Also, if you do botting inside VMs, you'll need the added processor and RAM, and probably some added 3d card capability for virtualized 3d. And if you're doing VMs... you'll be looking for more space to store the different VMs [and a copy of the game on each VM], vs faster drive speed.)

so much better :)

but well .. expensive.

ssd helps nothing in d3 botting. only in short runs it make sense like 9-12 sec runs how they were at the beginn of demonbuddy.

Not to mention that SSD performance deteriorates the longer you go without restarting your PC. On some occassions, I leave my bots running 2-3 days without touching them. Dunno how much the SSD performance drops in that period.
