Hello,
Advertising is prohibited. So I have two questions:
  • Can I use links to the plugins/botbases that I develop in my signature?
  • Can I put link to my products as solution in response to questions?
I saw several people who uses links to shop.buddyauth.com / product specific forum threads, so there's a question.
Thank you,
aash.

Hi, Aash,

Links to free Community-contributed content (e.g., made available in the main Buddy forums) is not considered 'advertising'.

The Buddy forums considers as advertising:

  • WTB/WTS/WTT posts

  • Links or references to paid products that are not produced by Bossland GmbH.
Please note that links to third-party sites are distinctly disallowed, no matter what they reference.

  • Links or references to content from the Buddy Store.
Buddy Store product links and references are only allowed from the Buddy Store sub-forum--not the main forums. Even then, there are some very specific rules as to what and how they can be presented. You can find that information here: Forum considerations
Without these rules, the main forums would rapidly degenerate into a chaotic marketplace.

You can do both of these things as long as the product is free Community-contributed content. The problem with the former (i.e., signatures) is such things tend to get reported a lot by the Community. If a moderator sees the links, and isn't paying attention, then the content may be removed from your signature. Links to allowed and disallowed content look quite similar. Probably, best if you don't provide links from a signature (even if its allowed)--because, eventually a moderator will make mistake.

If you are selling a product through the Buddy Store, then Forum considerations calls out what is allowed for signatures.

If you see this outside the Buddy Store sub-forum, then please report the offending post. As, this is not allowed in the main forums. Bossland seeks to keep all advertising of Community Developer wares contained within the Buddy Store sub-forum.

Ok, I'll try to explain it, if you have a product on the store you are not allowed to give a direct link to it on the forum, having a link in your sig for your products on the store is allowed tho like : 'https://store.buddyauth.com/Home/Search?searchText=USERNAME'
If someone asks for example, 'I'm looking for a profile that do this', you're not allowed to link to buy my product LINK that do exactly that as that it's advertising, you are allowed to post, I have a product on the store named 'NAME' that do exactly what you're looking for.
The only place you are allowed to have a direct link to a product is on your support thread.
If it's a free product that you have here on the forum (not on the store) then you're allowed to direct link it, that's fine, direct linking within the buddy forum is just fine but buddy store is not this forum.

Atleast that's what has been said about this topic (that I can remember).

Thank you for detailed explanation.

Indeed, the bold sentence above seem not quite correct, according to the present BuddyStore rules link, provided by chinajade:
If you feel you must 'help' users find a product that will fit their needs, use words to this effect:"There are products in the Buddy Store that fill this need." Linking or referencing specific products or authors is not permitted, as that is considered advertising.
Basicly, if someone asks on the forum for certain your product or describing certain product functionality, fitting your product, released on the Buddy Store, you are not allowed to guide him directly to your product, verbally or with link.

Controversy, if your product is not listed on the Buddy Store, but community project on the forum instead, all of these rules do not apply to it, and you are free to link to its forum topic.

Atleast we used to be allowed to use that earlier unless it changed.
