Coming back - formatting hard drive necessary?

Hey, all - as the title says, I'm thinking about coming back after getting caught up in the banwave 6-7 months ago. I've read a lot of posts from people suggesting that we should format our computers if restarting. What's the consensus? Is that actually recommended?

No, it's not necessary. Blizz tracks way more about your pc and personal details than doing a format will protect you from.

Will it hurt anything? No...But its far from necessary.

The same people that tell you that you should format are the same people that tell you that you should be running VM's/VPN's/Proxies, which have been proven to provide absolutely no security benefit.

The only recommended task is to wipe all the Blizzard traces off your computer before restarting.

This includes all the Blizzard records in the Windows registry and all Blizzard installations, including Battle.net Client. Check the forums here, there was a tool for wiping the registry, I think.

Then reinstall all Blizzard stuff - full reinstall, do not copy over files from the old installations, like the fat Data folder etc. This is common but sad mistake, indeed.

That way, you can be safe for new botting approach!

This was very helpful - thanks guys! I decided to delete that registry stuff, completely delete and reinstall the client. Fingers crossed!

+1
Not saying this is the way blizzard tracks you entirley but after listening to aion's advice awhile ago doing re-formats has helped blizzard get off my case.
I was reg key or wow install i.d flagged since everytime I made new accounts which I did several kept getting hit even before getting to 100 but after full format the bans stopped.
I also have an static i.p and use the same p.cs now I only get done due to banwaves/suiciding

However what works for me may not work for you, and ofcourse blizzard have other ways in potentially flagging you as well but I'm just posting my experience.

Yes, formatting can help, but it is probably overkill in most circumstances. Some people believe that even if you format the CPUID is a good way to track and identify a machine, but it isn't because it is not unique. The EAX-3 register for Intel chips that included the serial number in the CPUID was discontinued over privacy concerns, and AMD never developed it. Unless you are using something like Pentium III your CPUID doesn't include a CPU serial number.

All formatting does is delete the file register not the actual files. If you want to delete the files you need to copy over the whole hdd

So what? Blizzard doesn't have access to the files after a format so how is an overwrite even pertain to the situation? An overwrite is over kill in this situation.

just use a vpn . its safe. not ban safe but you will get your account back if your get banned under the vpn. vato loco ese
but if you run the bot your on the radar home skillet. theres no way around dat even with everything. the only way you can actually get banned and get your account back now is with a vpn

ps - asah du

really m8? i do it all the time ryftonia
I mean obviously you cant be doing it more than once per account

First off, if you're getting banned all the time, you're doing something wrong
Second off, why are you appealing a ban if you aren't going to use the account again anyways?

Your story doesn't add up.

you should really be a lawyer, I guess saying "i do it all the time" does insinuate that I am being banned all the time but in this case that is not true. in this case i am not being banned all the time.
my statement was incorrect "I mean obviously you cant be doing it more than once per account" because i've actually gotten my accounts unbanned multiple times doing the same method with a vpn, thats why i deleted that line but apparently you got it in time XD.
your driving away from the point RB. the point is why wouldnt the vpn method work?

-edit
his post had nothing to do with why a vpn wouldnt work which is why he would of needed to respond anyways

Ryfto, a vpn might not protect you against bans, but if you have 30-50 bot accounts, it might help to avoid a mass-ban on all of them in the same time. This is of course just my speculation and blizzard knows that you are using a vpn anyway. I know that deleting all blizzard and wow stuff then reinstalling works, but what do you do when you run 50 accounts on a computer and get a ban, you are not going to reinstall all the time. it takes me 1 day to download wow >(

its easy for blizzard to track you as a bot you get stuck the bot is sometimes retarded and keeps running agains a wall where a normall player would not even get stuck on the weirdest things its easy for me to notice a bot playing or a real player also the bot doesend have a good unstuck code because it keeps running at it for a long time til you unstuck it self if the bot had a good unstuck code we would survive alot of more banwaves the devs should better fix the unstuck code. to get instantly unstucking when stucking

There has never been a banwave because of the bot getting stuck in a location. Banwaves are caused by detections.

Yes, the unstuck code should be worked on, but it never has, nor will it probably ever, lead to a banwave.

you gonna tell me how vpn's dont get you unbanned while using one? or were you just wrong and have an impulse to reply to everyones comment? because when you use a vpn and get banned and send in a ticket on ur real ip they tell you instantly "you accounts been hacked" and unlock ur account

This is far from the truth as well..

1. If you are actually getting unbanned for using a VPN (ie. I don't believe you), you are getting lucky and getting a good GM. These days, almost every GM will tell you that you're responsible for any actions taken on your own account. Plus, it's pretty easy for Blizz to tell if an accounts been hacked. The password gets changed 100% of the time...If they don't see that, anyone can see right through your story.
2. Cheap, public VPN's that use common IP's may end up getting you flagged instead of benefiting.
3. You have to be stupid if you think Blizz can't tell you're using a VPN.

So no, I don't believe you...And getting unbanned because you used a VPN is far, far, far from the norm.

Your story hasn't added up from your first post, and noone here should take your post about a VPN seriously.

I can confirm that using a VPN doesn't help get your account unbanned, well at least for me it didn't.
