I'm coming back to WoW and was wondering if people are getting banned for ONLY using Combat Routines (no afk)?

Never been banned for using CR's only once but that was not my fault :) "tripwire fail"

knock on wood, but I've not been banned for using CRs either, yet

of course, it's still botting so don't think that it's inherently any safer realistically

The exception so this will likely be in pvp if you use anything that has instant interrupt. Most CRs don't have that and there is built in variability, at least from the ones I've used, so it's "safer" than some other uses that will get you a lot of user reports. That is not to say it is safe, just less obvious than a stuck bot spinning in circles for hours.

My only bans have been detections, not reports.

I'm looking to use it for PVE only, LFRs and normal raids. (healing and tanking mainly)

How do they get you with software detections?

They detect the software. In this case, Honorbuddy, as it needs to attach to the WoW process in order to work. So its a cat and mouse game as Blizzard tries to find new ways to detect botting software and bot developers find new ways to dodge them.
