Combat Assist vs Ex Combat Assist?

Which one is the better one to use? I see Ex Combat Assist has framelock.

I've read around that Reborn Buddy was already built with a frame lock and Ex combat assist adds no benefit.

I ve also read that the difference is that with Ex Combat Assist you can heal someone without have to target him first. So is basically a requirement for healing routines.

I've never gotten Magitek's healing routines to work without ExCA, although I've heard(?) some people have.
For everything else, regular combat assist is better. ExCA adds a significant fps/performance decrease.
