Choosing one handed weapon instead of two handed

I was wondering why my retri paladin always had a shitty weapon while leveling but chalked it up to my tactic of changing the bot to grind via my phone when hes stuck on a quest maybe missing the reward.
Just now in Outland i saw the bot doing this:
