Can updating BIOS make computer faster?

Well I decided to update my BIOS for the first time on my Z77 ASRock Extreme4 with stock i5 3570k. After updating, I noticed my CPU load drop A LOT. Running 5x bots, the load was usually 50%-85%. Now it's throttling as low as 30%-60%. So I'm wondering if a simple BIOS update can make a computer run faster, is it possible?

I also installed a CM Hyper 212 Evo cooler yesterday, but I doubt that did anything, because I didn't notice any difference until after I updated the BIOS today...

Depends on the update, it could make it run faster in some cases yep.

Wouldn't recommend trying it if it isn't necessary though.

Agreed. I always google before plunging into an update, because of the rule of "don't update what is not broken".
My worst bios update bricked several of my HDDs :(

You probably had wrong settings in there before and the update reset everything to default.

Everything was default, except some fan speed settings. Exact same settings after updating too.
