Can someone explain how a combat routine works?

I never used one before and want to know how it works. Do I have control over my character while it is going on or does it control it for me? Does it use skills and abilities by itself?

CR and CC are two different things, first of all. CC does combat rotation on its own( These are usually used to for questing and Grinding profiles. ), aka uses skills = Abilities by itself. CR, Combat Rotation bot lets you move and USUALLY target MANUALLY, then it does the combat rotation suited for the situation.
