Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a new system from scratch and this would be my first time building from scratch so I am kind of newb at this. I know this isn't a tech forum, but I like the people here and there are a lot of very techy guys that seem to be very knowledgable about hardware with botting in mind!

Please note! I designed this computer with personal use in mind, this is not a pure botting rig!

Some parts may seem overkill, and some parts seem underwhelming. But, I built it with the mind set that I want a setup that would allow really good overclocking, and I plan to upgrade the RAM and Videocard later so that I can save on cost right now.

When purely botting, I'm looking to run 10-12 bots with good settings on this. But, mainly I want to run maybe 8 bots, while still able to use it to do other things i.e. "playing battlefield" (cpu intensive program).

Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
CPU:Intel i7-3770K
CPU Cooler:Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100i
Video Card:Sapphire ATI HD 7870 GHz OC Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5
RAM:Corsair 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-24) Low Profile Vengeance
HDD:Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO Series
CASE:Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid-Tower Gaming Case
PSU:750W "Corsair" HX 750 ATX Power Supply

Price: Around $1700 (I am not from America or Europe, so the prices for hardware here is slightly more expensive).

So my question is, would this be a good build?
In your oppinion what parts would you change and why?
Is there anything missing that I still need to add in?

Any advice/disscussion/oppinion greatly appreciated!

:D

corsair hydro h100i is not bad, and actually pretty good for it's price, but it performs like an air cooler.
which means that you'll probably be stuck at a 4.5 OC, cause ivy bridge is not great at OCing and needs quite the extra voltage.

so, if you're "serious" about OCing, get a REAL watercooling system, meaning an open loop one that you'll be able to expand/update as needed.
it sounds complicated but nowadays, there are some open loop water kits around which make it easier so you don't have to neatpick every single part of your kit.

Crucial for best speed and best price/performance. Intel for best performance, but higher price. Dont buy Samsung if they are not on sale or you are a fan-boy of them. Samsung builds "Sollbruchstellen" into their stuff. Means, most of their parts are broken right after the warranty is gone ;) Worst SSDs are OCZ, never ever buy them!

Rest is fine as it is. Maybe check the 3gb Grafix too. Sometimes they are on sale and just a bit more expensive than the 2gb versions.

Gigabyte boards are a classic, but you can save some money if you chose diffrent brand, like ASRock which is bassicly ASUS since they own them.
Also some overclocking record was set using a ASRock.

CPU: Nice choice, be advised that there is a rummor of intel releasing their new CPU's in couple of months. Did not stop me from getting I7 3770k a month ago.

Cooler: One of the best water coolers, but it is expensive, you can find kits with all you would need. Plus H100 is bassicly a small car radiator with fans. I can build a whole rig water cooler (CPU,GPU,HDD). My advice read on the subject and see if you willing to do it.

GPU: I have the same, but Gigabyte one. The reviews at newegg scared off Sapphire. Nice GPU can run everything on ULTRA while running 6 bots. Don't see why are going to update it anytime soon, but that is your choice.

RAM: Wrong choice if you ask me. As i said i run 6 bots and i am at 10gb ram. Jumps to 12-13 when running with SC2. Would 100% need 32gb. Get 3x8 of Vengance( you can get high profile since your going with water). Bassicly i don't like the 4x4 because ram is tricky sometimes if its diffrent it does not work. Meaning if you get 4x4 and later decide to get 8gb slot because you need more, you need to take out one of the 4gb and after you place the new slot it may not be dettected, partially detected, not working 100% causing crashes and so on. Read about it on google. I am not saying it 100% going to happen but it may.

SSD: No comment i don't have one, should get one though.

Case: As long as your going water should not matter, if you decide air make sure that you have a large box or most of the air cooler would not fit.

Power: 720 is overkill. Your going with I7 3770k they are not as power hungry as AMD chips. I have 620 W and use 400W. Get a nice stable 600-620 and you should be fine.

lol, get 32 gb ram. Unless it's your gaming comp, you need to lower the budget, 1700 bucks is too much for botting machine. You can almost build 2 of them with 3770/32 gb ram(most important things) for botting for that price.

thanks for the advice! it was very useful and I will take your suggestions into consideration, I am thinking of getting a 650W PSU now that will save me some, but I thought if you OC you will need more power, is that a confirm 650W is enough? I figure'd I'd need around 750w

it will be my gaming rig, but I want to use it for botting too, I get what your saying, i could prob build two that runs 6-8 for half the price, but I wanted something for personal use that would last into the future, also the prices here are probably 20-30% more than it is in the US

are there any components i'm missing? is there anything else i need to power up this machine? lol (first time building from scratch)

Generally you are on the right path for a good botting machine. It is a bit pricy, tho. For a botting only machine, that is; if you want to just get a good PC, go for that. Also, most people gave you some good advices. Got a couple of things to add, ofc:

1. SSD- all SSDs are pretty much the same just buy what is cheaper. If they are all similarly priced, get a Crucial, Mushkin, Kingston or OCZ(they are pretty nice!)
2. MOBO- GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H is a very good choice, but if you wanna save some cash, get GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H or GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD4H. They use the same chipset, you'll never see any real difference performance wise.
3. Cooler- While Corsair hydro series are a solid cooling solution, the pumps can be pretty noisy at full power, compared to the fans of a high grade fan at full speed. I have a Noctua nh-d14 and it is ROCK SOLID as well as freakishly silent. I recommend it over the H water coolers.
4. GPU- Why not get the same card, but not OC version? It would be cheaper and will last longer, also won't run as hot. I've owned my fair share of OCed top range GPUs over the years and at least two of them died prematurely.
5. RAM- There is no reason to get low profile sticks if you are not using a damn large cooler (like the nh-d14 i recommended). Actually, the larger the heatsink is, the better it disperses heat(at least in theory). Also, why Corsair? Vengeance series sticks look and feel cheapish(plastic) when you touch them, compared to other brands like G.Skill and Patriot. There won't be any difference in the performance, anyhow.
6. CPU i7 3570K is nice, go for that. But remember, you need a top grade TIM (thermal grease), cuz Ivy Bridge CPUs run hot like hell. Get Prolimatech PK-1 if you can find it where you live(amazon co.uk ships it worldwide i think).
7. CASE- get the cheapest metal ATX case with at least 2 UPSIDE fans that you can find. Don't worry about size, even small ones (smaller than Tower case) are able to fit in all MOBOs. Same goes for the cooler. The NH-D14 fits in a normal case nicely and it is pretty big.
8. PSU- 750W is an overkill. Get a 550/600W psu and you will be fine. I just finished building a system with i7 3930 and used 600W psu. It runs fine, OCed to 4.6 it is damn stable. So you can save some cash on PSU as well.

Here's mine.

CPU: i7-3770k
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-M Pro
VGA: Powercolor HD7950 pcs+ 3gb ddr5
RAM: 32gb
PSU: Thermaltake LitePower (600w)

all this for below $850
I also don't live in america or europe and it's around 15-20% more expensive here than america.

I honestly don't know why yours is $1700

where do you live?

Hey grinch, where the hell do you live, man. In europe it's way more expensive :)

@ad3ddd, is it really? gonna get the receipt and check the prices again and post them here 1 by 1. I just bought these probably 5 weeks ago.

anyway here are the prices

VGA: Powercolor HD7950 pcs+ 3gb ddr5(boost edition):301.06 US
CPU: i7-3770k: 264.18 US
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-M Pro: 140.69 US
PSU: Thermaltake LitePower (600w): 52.49 US
RAM: 8x4 (32gb) : 150.16 US

908.58 USD total. (I guess I was off by 58$)

I paid in our own currency of course but I converted it to usd so you could translate to the price.

btw I did not inculde chassis and stuff.

Well, where i live in Eastern Europe the prices for these components would be:

VGA: HD7950 pcs+ 3gb ddr5 :418 USD
CPU: i7-3770k: 418 USD
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-M Pro: 185 USD
PSU: Some (good) brand (600w): 85 USD
RAM: 8x4 (32gb) : 210 USD

These are freshly taken from a local (cheapish) online store and converted to USD. What do you think :) I can guarantee that prices for new items in the UK are higher, used to live there.

Juat thought I'd correct one part - only USA has cheap computer parts, not fail EUROPE

Since you love correcting so much, let me correct you. On the one hand, this is only true for the things that actually come from US companies. Price gets higher on the way of the parts to Europe, because there is a duty (tax) when they enter the European Union. Just so happens that almost every part of a computer is made/sold by American companies. One exception i can think of, is cooling solutions. Some of the best fans/heatsinks/TIMs are made by German/Austrian companies. (Gleid, Noctua, Prolimatech). On the other hand, "cheap" is a pretty relative term, since what is cheap for me may not be cheap for you or vice versa. For example, the prices that Grinch mentioned seem cheap to me, but aren't cheap compared to the "non-fail"(your term) US market.
