Botting safety question

Hi guys,

first off, to the developers and contributors on this site - kudos, you're all doing a great job and we appreciate it.

I just recently found out that I don't have to grind and quest - doing the same quests 100 times - to level my character. I only purchased this around 4 days ago and already have my character to level 35 with 1 day and a few hours pf playtime.

I am trying to play it safe since I heard about the bans and suspensions going around and am making sure not to be flagged for any sort of manipulating or exploiting the in-game currency system. So I make sure to play less than 8 hours a day and constantly check in to make sure I'm not stuck or doing something that makes my bot obvious to everyone.

I had a thought recently on how to increase time played and reduce the risk of being caught and just wanted to know if this would work. I'm not sure how blizzard bans, but I'm guessing they monitor the character and not the entire account. So would it make sense to play one character for around 8 hours and then switch to your alt for another 8 hours - would this help stay under the radar or will blizzard simply see one account active for 16 hours? Can anyone comment on this through experience or understanding of how Blizzard GM's ban/suspend accounts?

Blizzard is monitoring for how long your account has been online, and if its an unhuman ammount of hours it will most likely get flagged.

So it doesn't matter if you run it 8 hours and switch to another char for 8 hours extra, it would be the same as you would have been on for 16 hours on your other char. Less chance to get reported maybe tho by players if you switch characters.

It would be slightly more efficient yes, however we don't 'exactly' know what they look for. We know that they look at auctions. The only real thing I think that they don't monitor is your movement (the choppy botty click-to-move movement). They most likely look at your play time per session, how fast your leveling, what your killing, how many battlegrounds you do, instances, quests, and other things a real player does on a normal basis.

I have said this before somewhere but let me re-expose my ideas on how to level without major risk.

Questing: The best but most of the profiles aren't 100% working yet.

Grinding: Works almost flawlessly but a higher ban chance.

Mixed: My personal favorite for the grinding and pvp, makes it even less bott-like.

PvP: It is good, might raise eyebrows and looks slightly botty so I don't suggest running it 24/7.

Instancebuddy: This will probably become the most supported way once it gets all of its bugs ironed out. It does instances and grinds for you in the background. How nifty is that!

while leveling, Avoid populated areas when your AFKin it, Manage your own auctions, Dont spam the AH with millions of items, Dont ever post mass amount of items on the AH from the char your botting with, People will whisper it asking for more of that item at those prices what not. And.. Avoid making friends on the char your botting with...

Alright, that is really good to know. I guess that is one thing I should be weary of. I get a lot of leather from the bot skinning everything in sight and until now just sold most of it at the auction house. I'm going to start sending it all to 2 or 3 alts just to sell them to throw off suspicion.
