Botting D3 without a dedicated GPU

Given some recent comments in some PC build threads, I decided to do some research to figure out if it is possible to bot D3 with no GPU, potentially saving a lot of money.

Heres a 330$, obviously untested build. AMD A10-5800K, Rosewill FBM-01 - System Build - PCPartPicker

Quad Core 3.8ghz AMD processor, with a built in HD 7660D. Performance benchmarks show that it destroys the built in HD Graphics 4000 from the i7-3770k, almost doubling its FPS.

Some users have claimed that the i7-3770k can run 10 bots with no video card, and I have sadly yet to gather any proof that this actually can be done. One person said he was running 6 bots and that it was starting to lag slightly. This is most likely a graphics issue, which the A10 processor wouldn't face due to it's far superior built-in GPU. The downside to the A10 is that it is significantly weaker than the 3770k, which is not a real issue if the goal is 10 bots or so.

Call me crazy, but this build is super cheap and I can't find a real reason for it not to work. Can someone prove me wrong?

EDIT: Did some more research and it appears that the integrated GPU in the A10 will run best with faster ram. Since the build is so inexpensive upgrading to faster ram really isn't a big deal.
EDIT2: The GPU can be overclocked making this look like an even better deal.

Well, what's holding you back from trying? All sites have return policies. If they don't work, send it back for a refund... or buy a graphics card.

at 330$ it's certainly worth a try

sidenote: yall should invest in an external optical drive so you dont have to buy a new one each time you build a new computer

or you could remove the internal every time and swap it to your new build..

What's holding me back is that I'm in EU, where everything is double the price. I have a free shipment coming in from the US in March, but that's a long time from now. I already have the 230$ 3770k on that shipment, but I might toss in the A10 if it turns out to be as good as it sounds.

My opinion: pick up a larger PSU in case you need to get a GPU.

I have an A8 with standard cooler and this can handle 3x D3 easy. 4x is max with 100 percent load and very loud. I think the A10 can handle 1, maybe 2 more.
With a crappy NV250 or 260 (dunno, but cheap like hell) my A8 can handle 6-7 bots and i could turn the cooler to low noise.

Is that stock performance? What RAM clock do you have? Using modified D3prefs?

The A10 performs 20% better in CPU performance, and ~25% better in GPU performance, so it would probably handle D3 better than your A8, would be interesting to hear what settings you use though.

Also the next generation of the A10 is being released on March 19th, releasing the A10-6800k as the top model, which apparently has GPU performance similar to the HD 7750, and a CPU performance increase of about 10-20% over the previous A10.

EDIT: According to this test, http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/amd-trinity-graphics_8.html#sect0, ram clock is a major factor in GPU speed. The biggest jumps are from 1333mhz to 1600mhz which gives a 15% boost in fps, and 1600mhz to 1866mhz which gives another 15% boost. Ram clock over 1866 really doesn't give much power for the price.

Also another gen of the A-series is coming late 2013, which is apparently going to feature AMD's Steamroller cores.

Another EDIT: Here's a modified build for 1866mhz ram, 353$ at the time of posting: AMD A10-5800K, Rosewill FBM-01 - System Build - PCPartPicker

OP, referring the the GPU side of your AMD APU as "amazing" because it "destroys" the Intel GMA part which it is "far superior to" made me LOL really hard.

Am I wrong? Whats your point?

Oh, and please don't misquote me.

I simply said I LOL'd at your adjectives. If you can get 8 D3 clients working on a cheap Lliano box, more power :D (less actually...).

Llano was never really in the scope of this post, and I agree it probably wouldn't run that many bots. However the trinity cores, or even the next gen richland cores are 30-60% stronger than the llanos, and I think they might work.

I'm going to test the build, but I won't bother buying the Trinity cores since the Richlands are coming out in three weeks, and probably another few days after that for shipping. Got a good deal on some 2400mhz ram so I have a good feeling about this.

Iam running at lowest possible setting in win7 and d3. No useless tasks, nothing else. Pure for botting. Its 8gb Ram with 1866mhz at full speed. Problem is, i cant stable overclock, because crappy standard cooler ^^ But tested a few minutes. With overclocking cpu, gpu and ram it seems you can run 1 bot more.

Edit: If you got your A10 or the new ones, plz share or pm me. Would be interested to stock up a few more amd's if they can hit 6-8 bots :)

1.8 ghz wtf? Honestly, don't bot on pc's donated to Africa and you won't have these problems.
