Bot won't start: Someone else won the rename race but the sym link does not exist

This is the error I am getting with the latest update. I tried a fresh install and running as administrator.

If no joy, please try a 'clean install' into a NEW directory.

I figured out the problem. Hearthbuddy was running on an SSD and that is what is causing the issue. I've moved it to a HDD temporarily, hopefully the .exe renaming procedures can be updated to not rely on timing so much, so that I can load it up on an SSD.

Can you give us some more information about your setup please. Was the SSD your main OS install drive (C:\) or was it a different drive letter or some other non-standard setup? Is your drive formatted with NTFS or FAT32 (if you right click on the drive in Windows Explorer and go to properties, you should see that info near the top).

A lot of people use SSDs nowadays, and the new setup was tested on machines that had SSDs, so it's unlikely the type of hard drive you ran it from matters. The Windows API shouldn't work differently if you're on a SSD or HDD, but rather something else, quite possibly the file system of the hard drive, or if you have a non-standard Windows setup on a different drive, or other things of that sort. If you have some time to work with us, we'll try our best to identify the problem and get it resolved for anyone else who also might have it. :)

The SSD is not my OS install drive, it is formatted with NTFS.

I fresh installed Windows a couple of weeks ago and the bot was running fine on my SSD since then, it's just the latest update that it started to fail. As soon as I moved the existing HB folder to my HDD it ran fine.

Happy to help in any way possible, just let me know what you need from me.

  • Are you running Windows 7?
  • If running Windows 7, is its patch level up-to-date?

I'm running a fresh install of Windows 10 with the latest windows updates.

The latest Hearthbuddy update allowed the installation on my SSD drive to get further along, but now after the main window opens it simply closes.
