Bot detection article.

its not that great it talks about very basic bots that run off of reparations action. Maybe GB1 would be caught but with cc that are % based and trigger based there isn't really a pattern therefore looking smooth. Even the paths are now randomly generated every time based on the surrounding never taking the same path twice.

Yeah exactly the point ... it was made in 2009 now imagine today in 2012 !!

You know what evolution mean, right ?
rch
yea, it means blizzard spend who knows how much on warden only to sue everyone and spend even more money on lawyers, obviously research like this is interesting, but not something blizzard actually cared about, or they wouldn't of just sued everyone.

Or maybe they will do both...
Maybe they don't want to actually ban people who pays 14€ a month, but if thats what it takes...they will for the rest of the player base who does not bot.

Their primary detection technique appears to be looking into people who get reported. Which makes sense. If I were them I would rather use developer time on making money rather than losing money.

This "BANWAVE" thing is getting out of hand.
STOP botting if you can't handle it, it wont change the fact that HB is NOT, I repeat NOT detected!
That post might just as well be an attempt at scaring the shit out of 14 year old botters, and to be honest, they are doing a good job lol.

I get annoyed when articles like this make bold statements about what bots do to the game's economy and then quickly change the subject.

Botting?s impact on a game can be substantial. In
particular, it can lead to significant levels of inflation
in the game economy because bots can, for example,
create unusual amounts of gold by perpetually slaying monsters. This large amount of circulating gold
in turn increases prices for items to the point where
honest players can?t afford them anymor

Which law of economics states that cheap labor makes prices higher? They completely ignored the fact that botting pumps an unusual amount of raw materials and goods into the economy. It would be really nice to see an actual study on the economic(game economy) impacts of botting.

They put all this time, money and effort in a study about tracking path statistics when it only takes a few lines of code to vary a path.

Agreed. If anything, in my experience, the bots at large (either idiots or chinese gold farmers) undercut until the ore prices are dirt cheap, making life for normal players almost luxurious as they don't have to farm the raw mats.

Agreed, if there was not botters on the server the mats of the raw materials would skyrocket not to mention the other items where the same mats are used. Also more items of any kind put on ah by botters repeatedly can't cause to prices to go higer making it unaffordable for "normal" players it can only make it more affordable.
