Someone you can bounce ideas and implementation strategies off before launching them.

The change in lifetime licenses needed to happen, and has been expected by me for some time.

The implementation strategy was very poor.

You're looking at users as customers when really they're more partners. You both make money off each other, it doesn't go one way.

If you need a yearly, monthly, etc subscription thats fine. Communicate it, sort of like you did with Exilebuddy but preferably a lot better.

Then you need to allow your partners(the ones who will continue subscription post changes) time to adjust and save up money to spend on the unexpected expenses.

If you had come out and been like hey in 2 months this will need to happen otherwise we won't be able to continue this project, then people have 2 months to come up with or put aside earnings to fund their continued use of your program.


You're effectively charging 10-20 days of a keys value with 1 day notice.

Do you not see the problem with that? You either cause a rush to sell gold saturating the market to pay for your new costs or forcing them to look at alternatives because they've cashed out recently. Anyone doing this for income could be forced to look at alternatives to utilize their hardware. Is that a risk worth taking, when the other option is simple communication?



The situation doesnt change much for Americans(which im guessing is a large part of your market) with the numbers showing as high as 76% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Adding an extra 60 dollar bill on 1 day notice isn't feasible for a lot of them.


Giving your user base options to continue their usage without downtime is a lot better way to approach this type of situation than the one you've taken.

How many customers have you lost out of spite due to the way you've handled your transitions? If it's more than 10 licenses you'd be better off buying a few hours of someones time who does this type of thing for a living and creating a real plan to retain your user base while making the required changes.


My guess is that its way more than 10 license keys. Historically its about 60% of customers that will not return once they feel spited by a company.


You guys do a lot of things very well. But you need to know when you're doing something wrong and adjust if you want to maximize your income.
