Does anyone know how to use their abilities? It's gotta be something simple I'm missing but it's going right over my head and no website has helped.

You have to gain their rep first. Just by killing anything thats green level or higher (the area where all the demons spawn in Talador is a great place to farm). After every level you get a quest from them and that will unlock first another move then the ability. Talk to them and you will get the option to use it.

No problem. I forgot to link this post. Its a grindbot profile to do the work for you. A tank class seems to work best. It helps to be a little geard as well as you might pull a lot.

not sure I understand the question here, but if by use their abilities" you mean is there any way to make a tank follower taunt, the answer is no.
