Hi I just found this funny image posted on another wow-related forum and LOL, so much truth to it. SPOT ON! The game becomes more and more casualized with each patch. Players are encouraged to WANT more not EARN more. 
) Instead of raising the skill level of players, Blizzard doesn't mind if everyone is lowered to the lowest common denominator (see the similarity with far left marxist/socialist values yet?). The result is more players getting into raids without knowing how to raid, the breakdown of the server communities as people no longer need to communicate, while the best players quit.
And as for the money argument, well okay, the number of subs has DROPPED and quite badly and we've had 2 very casualized expansions so far. Growth of subscriptions has happened mostly in vanilla and TBC. So trying to please as many people is actually making them LOSE money, a complete backfire. The only way to regain is to make WoW competitive and yes a bit GRINDY again. (which btw is a boost for those who sell virtual items and gold, it makes them VALUABLE again)
Nowadays you can "see the content" by sitting in Orgrimmar and queing. No need for enchants, rep grinds, no real need to do dailies, flasks etc. Just que and get carried. (and maybe then there's some room for enchants, 2nd quality of course they won't waste precious gold)
As for the "do heroic mode" argument, sure, but many people admit to being burned out from normal and LFR.
