Blizzard changed policy on banning?

Hi all,
got my account suspended for 72h (EU realms)
Reason... botting... (I was campering TLPD since 96h 24h/day)
In the reason GM wrote me: Use of third part software.

I opened a webticket to GM asking for an unban (..).
I received a reply:
Following a review of your case, I can confirm that the evidence presented was correct

So it's confirmed that the GM received a report for botting and suspended my account.

But ..ehm.. There is one more thing...

When, 2006/2007, i used Glider then HB i received a FINAL warining for same activities and Blizzard was more rigid than now.
Or better, in 2006 they suspended me for "suspicious activity" ... now they suspended me for "botting"...

I can't say now Blizzard allows botting but i believe actions taken are less restrictive than in the past.

Probably AH exploitation or economy ruinage is still hardly punished but probably botting for leveling not so much.

Any consideration about it?

M.

They don't allow botting. If you are stupid enough to run a bot 96h straight, well you deserve the ban. Congrats.

Unnecessary. This is not what he was talking about, he does not complain about being suspended or banned.

@DaSoul:

Considering that with my account I CAN do whatever I want and I didn't write to complain about a ban, I was writing for another consideration that is Blizzard changed a bit their point of view?

So next time avoid writing or turn on brain before writing. Full Stop.

Yeah but some poeple spend their time looking for botters. They do nothing else then check who is in area xyz for how long...perhaps check your armory profile, see you have herb + mining...they put you on their friendlist....hour after hour they still see you farming and BAM they write a ticket.

If you wouln't be that stupid to bot so many hours straight...instead do some zone switching and random logins...then this is human like behavior and doesn't look suspicious for a game master.

Instead if the game master watches you, being online for that period of time...and the only thing you're doing is farming, the suspicion is: bot user. (and therefore the ban with subject: 3rd party software)

And that is enough to ban you. They neither need 100% evidence nor prove it to you.

that is better than your first answer :)
Personally, being one of the "first hour" Glider members I can confirm you I have enough experience of botting and ban prevention.
Simply... on another account I got TLPD after 2 days... now it took a bit more (and I didn't get it..still..) and i continued..
So it's not a matter of "unknowing" what to do, simply there was another player campering TLPD and didn't like me ^^

For the rest I think 2/3 yrs ago Blizzard probably would have banned me for that, now they just gave me 72hrs.

Later, going to raise to 85 another toon on another account ^^

I never meant to flame or something..but if you say you have the experience you should know, that the more time you bot straight, the risk of getting attention is higher.

I started botting at the end of vanilla and never had any suspension or ban or whatever. Years ago, botting was way more difficult then today and people where more afraight to bot. The amount of bot users is like 1000% higher then before. When sometime ago people saw a bot they made fun of it, kiting it around or something and went off...today where you have battlegrounds where sometimes almost half of the team are bots, or you try to farm something and see 5 characters fly in the same line farming everything...people get pretty pissed.

The common acceptance towards bot users is much lower than before. Nowadays even bot users write tickets about other bot users... =(

+ i think it depends on the mood of the gamemaster. I saw friends getting bans, where others only got 72h suspension, or heard/read about people getting banned for hacks where somewhere else the gamemaster just said "okay this is a warning, don't do it again."

heres the thing, bots are a lot better now then they where when glider was around, so of course they need to second guess all bannings because there's no Cut and Dry, this guy is botting, this guys not anymore. specially with server side stat auto bans, normal people can trip those as well, not only bots.

You're a boss man, 96hr in a row is just legendary xD, we should have a competition for the longest botting session before getting banned xD

i've been botting 72hrs straight.. so far not so much as a whisper. went from 41-60 in one day.. lol

also im using HB under a VPN, so even if i did get caught i can just say i was hacked and the guy was trying to get me banned or something like that...

:p

Personally I bot whenever I need, and with timing I need.
I.e. I can bot 2 hrs 'cause I just need 260 Silk Cloth or 96h 'cause I need a fast 1-60 questing leveling.
And never had problems. WIth Cataclysm you see less and less people around the world and more or less you spend all your time leveling alone.
Risk (as in my case) is higher when you perform specific actions in specific situations (campering Aeonaxx it's a bit risky at the moment).
Now I have 2 accounts: one just min+herb botting 24h/day, no stop. Just stop for smelting and prospecting, mailing and AHing. The other one bots just for specific purpose (now it was for TLPD)
And infact TPLD botter got a suspension, the other one is still running now.

96 hours straight?...1/27/12 - 2/14/12 is how many hours then...? lol only time i've stopped is these weekly server downs

Epic thread hijack right here, geez. How about discussing what the OP's original subject matter was about...

The fact is we have no way of knowing if their policy has changed or been tweaked with regard to banning. I've noticed that there are differences in how disciplinary actions are taken between EU and US realms. I believe EU is a little more lax and offers more suspensions instead of outright permabans than the US. But again we have no way of knowing and can only take an educated guess. If it's true that Blizz is forced to now take a more cautious approach to banning due to bots evolving and becoming more sophisticated, then this is a plus for us.

I believe their policy has indeed changed since the glider days.
It seems nowadays they auto-ban a LOT.
If you simply dispute it (the best way is by phone; tickets work as well) 99% of the time you will get unbanned. It seems to me that *most* chinese farmers will not dispute the ban, they simply start another account. "Real" players will almost always dispute.

i've been botting 108hrs straight.. they can't auto-ban that much, otherwise i'm sure i'd be top of that list..

mate, use bot 10/12/14h per day and u will never get banned.... 24/7 = 100% bot :|

i bot with pirox and now with hb from 2008....never get banned ( ecept for archeology ( for a pirox error ) )

i always bot 8/10/12h per day, and every 4/5 days do 24h offline....never get banned...i have 4 account with 32898320 lvl 85 full pvp : )
