Hey community!

I'm a long-time casual (i.e. one account and perhaps a few hours a day or every other day). The purpose of this thread is to get some discussion going regarding battlegrounds as it seems that, although Honorbuddy works quite well at getting you INTO the BG and KEEPING you in the BG, the logic that guides its decisions when IN a BG seems very "botlike". Often when I bot, I am at the keys and watching while doing other things. I can't help but notice many of the following things (just as examples):

1) Taking the water route out of the Horde base in Twin Peaks, mounting while in the water and then riding your mount literally across the span of the entire lake.

2) Dismounting 30-40 yards away from enemy players that are mounted and then running after them on foot while they are running away from me without any concern (I have "Target Mounted Players" unchecked yet it still targets them from time to time).

3) Randomly doing little pathing "circles" while mounted wherein the bot will rapidly move my toon in a tight circle before proceeding along a more linear path again (I have "Use Experimental Path Following" unchecked)

4) Engaging in battles not in any way relevant to the BG's objective (i.e. In Twin Peaks earlier today we had a stalemate going wherein we had each others' flag. The bot properly navigated me into the opposition's base where they were holding our flag, entered the flag room where they were holding it but then left the flag room because no one was within 40 yards of my entry point to the room. My toon then engaged in a 1v1 battle outside the keep with a random enemy player).

5) Along a similar line of thought to 4 above, engaging in battles not only unrelated to the BG's objective but in battles that are illogical (i.e. I just watched my bot attack some random DPS target while right next to the flag carrier and a healer in Twin Peaks).

Now I understand fully the intent here is not for the bot to play the game as effectively as I might do so when playing myself but many of these decisions the bot makes seem fixable. As such, I've started this thread to reach out to the community on your thoughts regarding BG intelligence within Honorbuddy, ways to improve the bot's intelligence today (as in using the Honorbuddy we have presently - tweaks, settings, CC configuration, etc) and ways to improve the bot's BG intelligence in the future.

Thanks!

Thoughtful post, hope you get more replies. Only thing I know how to solve is your #1:
1) Taking the water route out of the Horde base in Twin Peaks, mounting while in the water and then riding your mount literally across the span of the entire lake.
^ route is determined by the hotspots in the TwinPeaks.xml, so you can delete those & replace with your preferred route by going to the "Profiles & Meshes" tab and pressing "My Position" which generates a hotspot; keep generating hotspots on the route you want to take & save your changes to the .xml

I would suggest you take a quick look at either Squire or its DPS equivalent (Simple Follower?).

Those plugins find which of your allies have the most people around them and "follow" the pack. I use quotes there to make it clear, you don't just autofollow some random player. HB just routes you near the 'leader'. This can solve a lot of your problems. For one, it keeps you from taking nonsensical paths, unless everyone is going that way. It keeps you from fighting random, pointless battles since you should always be with the group. If I remember correctly, it also targets whoever the leader is fighting, so you could easily avoid the "flag carrier's escaping" scenario that way.

As far as pathing goes, I haven't noticed any issues, and I play with Experimental Pathing ON for BGs (If you leave this off sometimes the bot freaks out and won't run down the cliff in either WSG or EotS). I personally haven't tried them yet, but there is a user-created set of BG profiles. They may also help fix some of these issues.

Or if you're really dead-set on it... You could always learn some C# and write a new plugin. ;P
