I've started botting using Kick's profiles, and decided to go with frost spec, but I've been having a lot of problems with my water elemental's Freeze ability causing the mage to stand in place and get hit because it can't decide where to cast the spell. Does anyone else have experience with this or is fire spec the generally accepted spec to level?
Best spec to level mage?

Arcane For sure i had a great time with my mage in arcane! you can switchout later. arcane will not have mana issues and taking on multi mobs etc is a breeze 
I'm finding that I'm dying a lot more with arcane haha...though the bot is running more smoothly. I'm lvl 21 and in duskwood right now and I'm getting owned by these damn worgen. Hopefully I can manage to make it through the night haha.

I'm just about to finish leveling mage (84)...Frost is the way to go for botting. Also, I strongly recommend avoiding the custom classes beside Singular (to current date). Singular works much better for leveling than any other spec out there..and, it feels like mage is the hardest class to level with Quest-Botting... (pre-cata - all peace of cake).
yeah im finding singular works best for the mage even though it's alot simpler than the other CC's. It just doesn't stuff up which is pretty important. I tried a few other mage CC and while they had loads of options and worked awesome in combot it screwed up alot and killed the bot.
also im using frost, was using fire until 24. Frost is 10000x better, rarely dies and does huge shatter combos.
