Being Detected by Players?

Recently I've been recieving whispers from players with legit names, i.e. none like asdfgfdstwo. They all say, "Hi, <My Toons Name> are you there? " When I try to add to friends list to monitor their gameplay, they don't exist.

Is this just another scam in action from phishers, or should I remain cautious?
