This is a guide for barbarians, sword and board, 1-60. This will help you get to inferno fast. The first section will cover some gerneal concepts while the secodn will be a step by step guide.

Skills:

-Use cleave (rupture)
Highly underated, this will make large groups of mobs go poof in one or two swings with higher dps

-Use sprint (rush<marathon)
Use as often as you can, you're speed running so this should be an obvious choice

-Use leap (iron impact)
Use for movement as often as possible, and use when you run into some baddies that hurt, well, bad (ie: the hammer guys in act 1)

-Use threatening shout, swap out for war cry (hardend wrath<invigorate)
Threatening shout is a great damage mitigation tool, war cry is better

-Use ignore pain (ignorance is bliss)/ground stomp (wrenching smash)/rend (blood lust) until you get WotB
Ground stomp is an excellent starter, wrenching smash will bring the baddies in close to cleave and revenge away, use rend over ignore pain - if that isn't working for you ignore pain is better damage mitigation but provides no DPS boost

-Use WotB (insanity)
Save this for elite/champ packs - it burns them down fast and prevents them CCing you

Items:

-Focus on str/vit/exp anything else is a bonus

-Aside from the note at the start of the step by step section, only pick up yellows (and legendaries). In regards to what to put on AH:
a decent DPS weapon with a socket
armor with some combination of mainstat/vit/experience
at later levels vendor armor that doesn't have sockets where possible
vendor the rest, if you have lots to list on the AH vendor class specific items

-For all the following items if you can get experience on them relatively cheap do it
When you hit level 15 buy, in this order:
Weapon with socket
Helm with socket
Put a flawless square ruby in each.
Boots with best move speed

-For all the following items search both vit and str, see which has a higher stat cheaper
When you hit level 20 buy:
Chest with 2 sockets, vit/str
Pants with socket, vit/str
Fill your sockets with vit/str gems

Example items from AH for a level 20:
Helm - With flawless square ruby, 10 exp (2100G)
Chest - 2 socket, 18 vit (5000G)
Pants - socket, 27 vit (2100G)
Weapon - 27 DPS, socket, 11 experience (5000G)
4x flawless square ruby (6180G)
Total - ~20,400G

-Note that rings and amulets can have sockets at low levels as well

-I can't stress enough how important it is to have experience on your items to get to inferno fast, this is a necessity, a lot of items you pick up will have experience on them, put them on, even if it has dex or int or pickup radius. The chest/pants/weapon will carry you very well till later levels. At later levels you may need to look into items on the AH for more mainstat/vit as well as experience if you can get it.

-Keep in mind we will be buying very expensive items at level 45-50, so don't spend outrageous amounts.

Step by step:
-For the first few quests pick up blue items, fill your slots, then only pick up yellows.

-Only kill mobs that are in your way, and elite packs that aren't far out of your way. We want to complete each act in under 1 hour except act 1 normal and possibly act 2 normal.

-Complete act 1 and 2, get rushed to act 4, if you can handle it jump to the spire and just own diablo.

-Skilled players with decent gear can start on nightmare at 25, otherwise you should be able to start at the latest 30

-When you enter nightmare, take this time to upgrade a piece of gear or two of your worst gear, also upgrade your weapon and if you can get more move speed on your boots, do so.

-Complete act 1 and 2 again but this time blaze through, shoot for under 1 hour each you should be around 35-40 by the end of that, upgrade your weapon and one or two pieces of your worst gear if you're having a hard time.

-At any point if you find yourself dying more than a few times you need to step back, upgrade a piece of gear or two, or consider changing out some passives.

-When you hit 45, and even a short while before you hit 45, start searching for items with -15 level requirement and ONE stat that is high, go for vit on chest and pants and str on belt and shoulders, this is the most cost effective way to do things. Get some all resist as well. 100 all resist will help immensly in hell. At this point getting +experience on your gear isn't so important, focus instead on high str, high vit, sockets, a bit of all resist, get crit chance on gloves, shield and amulet, get crit damage on rings and amulet. Use the passives superstition, ruthless, weapons master. When you buy your weapon get an axe or mace, you don't need a socket anymore as the reduced level requirment weapons will have outrageous DPS. If you get a socket cheap use a green gem. Don't cheap out on your weapon. You can get a killer weapon and less strength and do very well. Killing faster is (almost) the same as high damage mitigation. Maces will hit higher more often but are slower. Axes hit fast but can do less damage. You wont be able to afford all the reduced level requirement items you need at level 45. Don't sweat it, take some time, if you can't find a good deal on one slot, look for a different item slot, prices fluctuate. Buy what you can, return later, and keep in mind when you return later you wont need to get a -15 level requirment item, you may only need -12 or -10 which will increase the number of item choices exponetially.

This is a guide written by me to aid those searchign for items at around level 45

-I personally found doing the ramparts in act 3 beneficial to leveling fast, if you need to, go through the keep depths as well. Do this and then jump to the start of act 4, complete act 4 and you should be about 50

-Hell can be entered at level 50, you want to be at act 1 hell by 50

-Hell is a rehash of nightmare, again aim for under 1 hour on each act.

So in total, you complete:
Normal, act 1 and 2, as little of act 4 as possible (about 2.5-3 hours total)
Nightmare, act 1 and 2, ramparts in act 3, act 4 (about 3 hours)
Hell, act 1 and 2, ramparts in act 3, act 4 (about 3 hours)
That is 8.5-9 hours to 60.

This is the fastest possible way I have found of getting to 60. I didn't do this on my first try, I've been through several characters. I see this method reasonably turning out like this for someone reading and understanding it with only having done one character before:

Normal, act 1 (1.5hr) and 2 (1.5 hr), as little of act 4 (0.45hr) (3.45 hours total)
Nightmare, act 1 (1.5hr) and 2 (1.5hr), ramparts in act 3 (0.33hr), act 4 (0.45hr) (call it 4hr)
Hell, act 1 (1.5hr) and 2 (1.5 hr), ramparts in act 3 (0.33hr), act 4 (0.45hr) (call it 4 hr)
This totals about 12 hours and is in no way unreasonable.

Cheers! This is my small contribution to the demonbuddy forums for all the well written and well coded tutorials and guides.

ive been bosting a friend to 1-60
he only have EXP gear and i have one WD.. all we have to do is run.. pets kill every thing (at least till hell were i do have to make a couple of acid clouds on elits) and thats it.. we also do it in about 12h or so

That is by far the easiest way hahaha - but you'd need a friend willing to do it :) not many friends are willing to devote 12 hours. Kudos to you for doing so.

The key to the above guide is when you buy your items and what items you buy. You should be facerolling through mobs for the entire game until hell where you'll have some slight trouble, unless you have a really overpowered weapon that is. The really nice thing is if you invested say a million in gear you can continue right into inferno without having to re-gear as well. You have to get a great synergy going to get the best times possible - the entire process should be very fluid and easy.

If I feel up to it while my lady is at work today I'll do up a great reduced level requirement guide.

Good luck all :)

I just want to say that this guide is 100% spot on. I use one different skill in the setup but the rest is 100% the same. Get yourself a Cain's set (+30% xp and stupid cheap) and get a good ruby in the helm and you're golden. My personal best is 11h15m and I try to beat that every time I level a new bot.

Once you get to 42 get the best weapon you can with Reduced Level Requirement and you're off!

Great guide!

Using Cain's set and the highest Ruby I can afford, I usually average a little over 9 hours played to get to 60. They definitely speed things up considerably.

Excellent addition! Didn't know about the Cain's set. I'll add that in tonight sometime.

Thanks for the guide. I'm using more or less the same strategies with my barb (its 36 in nightmare right now), but since I usually rush the quest and don't explore, I'm using DB at the end of each act to do a couple of champion runs. This way you get a couple of levels for the next Act and you can do it usually faster without worrying if you're underlevel or that you have to level up to get to the next one.

Do you leave Cain's on all the way to 60 ?

G

On my last 60 barb I did, gloves, head and pants, I think... lol, maybe it was the boots, but I would figure I would want the run speed from something better.

Either way, with only 3 pieces of the set needed for the bonus, it's completely wearable all the way to 60.

Thnaks for that, I have just swapped them out actually, was getting owned trying to level from 35 upwards, my other pieces were good, not sure what was going on. I'll swap em back tonight and see. Too bad GilesItemReplacer doesn't leave lengendaries on, or allow you to tick all slots to not remove gear from, would probably like to upgrade all pieces other than Cain's set as I go along.

Did you use the skills above ? I don't quite understand what to use when I get WotB, what did you have in slot 3 ? IP or GS or Rend ?

What passives did you use. Sorry for all the questions.

I wore it to 60 on my WD as well. I found the WD ridiculously easy to level to 60 and did it in 9 hours 45. Acid cloud with a reduced req weapon just clears entire zones in 1-2 casts

Took about 23hrs played for me, happy with the result. The siege profiles needs a tweak or 2, stops right in the middle of some packs, DB tries to constantly teleport while being attacked by mobs, it stops teleporting and then starts again, doesn't actually clear the mobs, maybe just the end point somewhere smarter. I actually used the profile elsewhere that found all 5 fires, this was a little slower but didn't have any problems.

The use of Cain's set is great, wore it up until 60.

In the past 2 days I've leveled a wiz and a monk to 60 in under 7 hours each. This is using leorics sginet + 3 piece cains and taking advantage of MP Level when I could with out dieing.

I have hand lvled 10 60's now. First few just normal. Then xp gear few more. 1 before last used cain's set all way to 60. That was before 1.0.5.

After 1.0.5 made 10th final 60. Went MP10 from start. Used cains helm to 60. Changed other gear for best could. To me was alot funner, maybe not fastest. But fun. More challenge. Had to change to MP 7 for hell. Didnt want to buy higher priced gear.

Since then I have been giving people run throughs. Give them cain's set. MP10. Just farm act3 over and over advancing to next lvl as they go. Nightmare, hell. So on.

That's due to Giles item replacer, bot doesn't try to TP but to ID rares/legendaries while in combat.
A fix for this would be great :D
