Hello, my first one account in was recently banished, I was level 35.
Thus I made a small experience for tried to understand the method of detection Niantic.
I began two days ago a new account.
I decided to bot only in a 800 meter perimeter around my house.
No ban until the level 22.
Then I have to decide to bot in the heart of Paris, in 10 km from my home.
The next day, I was banished .

Hypothesis:

I thinks that Niantic bases himself on the IP to banish the players.
Indeed, if my IP adress location in game corresponds at my computer ip adress location, no ban.
If the server detects that my ip of my pc does not correspond has that of the city or I play, it is the ban.

I don't think so. I'm not a specialist in this matter but I believe Niantic can't get very accurate info about your IP. I think your IP might point to some kind of "connection center" of your internet operator, and only your operator knows your location (estimated by connected towers). I'm in Finland and sometimes my IP shows that I'm in Sweden or Estonia, or any bigger city in southern Finland. I actually use mobile connection on my desktop, makes me wonder if that makes it more secure compared to cable and other wired connections.

When your device connect to Niantic server, he have an ip adress.
Niantic can compare it to other device connect in same area.

Yeah but at this moment my IP shows 200 km of where I actually am now so its not very accurate. Later it might show 200 km the other direction. Basically third parties only get to know your internet operator and very rough estimate of your location from your IP. Though its not a good idea to bot in USA when your IP points to France, for example.
