Backup and move to the side.

As the title says, I'm curious about the backing up and moving off to the side mechanic.
I wasn't sure how I would search for this information, so I'm creating a new thread.

Is there a way to disable this movement? I would like to disable this during normal combat. It would seem sufficient enough to do this awkward move while stuck in a wall or other terrain.
It just screams, "I'm a bot" otherwise I think. Thank you for your time, and info.
