I like Wired, and appreciate is work
very much. Fpsware had similar frustrations earlier in the year, and moved his work to Wired's
LiquidSkies for a while because of the frustrations.
Wired's CC/plugins/profiles are clearly
his work to do with as he wishes. Making these popular works unavailable feels a little bit like blackmail, but it seems to be the only recourse to garner the needed attention to the problem. To be honest, the action may have cost him some respect in the community, but I'm sure he doesn't care--he's trying to solve a problem he perceives.
The Buddy team set the precedent earlier in the year of giving certain CC/Plugin/Profile authors the ability to moderate their own threads. I believe he seeks this privilege also.
Additionally, I think his frustration is there's no set of clear guidelines of who gets to moderate their threads and who doesn't. For the little guidance that does exist, the handling of certain situations does not appear to be handled in an even/fair-handed manner in his eyes. I'll leave it up to him to cite specific examples.
Apparently, the ability of individuals to moderate the threads they create was a feature that existed in the previous forums that does not exist (or is not turned on) in the current forums.
Wired is a
most valuable contributor to the Community. In short, just like Fpsware's earlier complaint, Wired would like the ability to moderate his own (single) threads related to the products he releases.
I'm not taking any sides, just trying to sum it all up for those that didn't know. Wired's missive has been ongoing for a few weeks now, and its kind of amazing that the whole Community is not aware of it.
cheers,
