They are trying to verify that it is indeed you that is logging in so you can't appeal the ban with the whole "my account was hacked" excuse. Just a guess/theory, this theory is probably dismissed by the fact that they know the IP you usually log in to since they track that.
Another theory is whenever you log in you agree to the terms of service so they expire your log in and have you re log back in so they can make sure you have "accepted" their terms of use before they roll a banwave.
Just a couple of theories, probably not correct/partially incorrect theories but it would make sense in my mind to expire logins to use these against you if you decided to try to appeal.
I only ask because last time i made post about this exact same thing with authenticator the next day was a banwave.
Not saying i found a loophole, just saying its strange and its about time for one and this is just more fuel for my gas powered tinf foil hat.
I would link the post where i asked this exact same question and the next day there was a ban wave but for some reason its deleted.
Also noticing was seems like scans in the backround of wow, just micro second lags with a ping of 20 ms on both world and home. Not noticing on my cheaper computers but on my main computer seems to be picking it up.
Guess will see within the next few weeks. If this is the new pattern.
Here is my guess
