any of you doing act3 using RARE gears only and not set or legendaries?

FOr some reason the only way I can think of surviving or keep good farming in act3 profile is with set or legendary gears.

anybody doing rares only?

I have tried all the build setup that was given...

but my toon still dies a lot... :(

what is the top 3 stats that needs to go with?

AR / LOH / LS ?


my toons are barbs btw..

skills are

rend - bloodbath
warcry - impunity
revenge - provocation
WOTB - insanity

frenzy - maniac
leap - iron impact

stats are:
80k DPS
9k armor
2201 str
1010 vit

AR 800
LOH 821
LS 2.80%
Life per second 415

the problems are with elites... :(

Get a Stormshield + Helm of Command and 1k AR and faceroll..
This.
Get a Stormshield with a high block %. Since I've got one with 34%, it's much easier. 1k AR and ~30k (+-3k) DPS makes it cake.

I'm not quite sure why you have problems with elites, your stats look very fine.

Sorry for hijacking your thread - but this may be relevant to others aswell. I'm currently farming act 3 inferno only dying to arcane/desecrators combos. I've been experimenting a lot with different gear setups, e.g. adding some LoH or some LS, but I can't seem to be able to survive through those combos. I'm using giles but no avoidance patterns activated at all since most of the time I find my barb stucking himself between mobs trying to avoid this and that while he would be better off attacking. I've currently concluded two options that are doing best but neither gets the job done completely. Both are sword and board builds. My unbuffed stats are:


Option 1:

Passives: Ruthless, Weapons Master (mace equipped), Tough as Nails.

Abilities: Frenzy (Sidearm), Revenge (Provocation), Leap (Iron Impact), War Cry (Impunity), Battle Rage (Marauder's Rage), Rend (Blood Lust).

Stats: 60k hp, 7.5k armor, 28k dps, 0 LoH, 0 LS, 800 AR, 37% crit, 134% CD, 1450 str, 1.44 attacks/second, 20% block.


Option 2:

Passives: Nerves of Steel, Superstition, Tough as Nails.

Abilities: Frenzy (Sidearm), Revenge (Provocation), Leap (Iron Impact), War Cry (Impunity), Battle Rage (Marauder's Rage), Rend (Blood Lust).

Stats: 68k hp, 9.5k armor, 18k dps, 900 LoH, 0 LS, 800 AR, 13% crit, 85% CD, 1500 str, 1.30 attacks/second, 34% block.


I have about 50-100m to spend on new gear, so can anyone please tell me whether it's possible to upgrade the gear to survive arcane/desecrator for that amount and if so, what should be done?

I suggest more dps. Frankly I have found that even if i build the most tank, i still die to arcane... For instance, i have an account with 2.5k LoH 90k HP and 1k All resist with 1.9 atk speed. I also i think have around 1k life per second. I still will die occasionally to nasty packs...
I have around 40k dps. I can literally stand ontop of arcane and desecrate and out heal all of that... However, you throw in something like frozen, and I die...
I get around 1 death per 5 hours...

I mean at this point its just throwing away your survivability to be able to kill the mobs faster. It seems that's the only way to be able to not die to the nasty combos.
 
boost your dps. fyi i use 2hand. i notice that once you get pass 100k dps (after battlerage) with 6% life steal, you should have no problem (0-2 death/h due to bot AI) at all and you can kill most elites in less than 10 seconds (wotb)
 
Does block % protect character from arcane, desecrator, etc?
 
yes, shield % also blocks elemental damages from affix's

Your bots are to tanky. My bot like dies maybe once a night.

Stats 60K hp
900-1000 res all (with war cry)
0 loh
0 ls
33% block (stormshield)
57K dps (before rage)
8.5K armor

I noticed DPS increases survivability more than my original 1100 res all, 60Khp tank build did.

Build I use
Rend Blood lust
frenzy maniac
WOTB - Insanity (I think you should replace leap with this - if the mob is dead it cannot kill you)
revenge - provocation
war cry - impunity
battle rage - marauders

superstition
ruthless
weapon master

I don't think you can block ground effects like plagued/desecrator/molten trail and arcane sentries.
You can block Molten bombs and Freeze bombs though.

Also from the grapevine, plagued/desecrator/molten/arcane seems to count as melee dmg and thus can be reduced by "Reduce % Melee Damage" affixed items.

You can block everything, plagued, desec, molten ... Trust me or try it :)
 
for some reason the avoidance is the problem..

the toon actually try to avoid arcane/molten and it get hits with mortar instead... (barb) or the elite goes into the toon and attacking it...

the toon that is on avoidance behavior stays away from those stuffs and idle for a few seconds.. so if elites comes close... it just stands there and let the mob kill him/her...

Then maybe you should adjust your avoidance settings? Turn off plagued avoidance, turn down desecrator avoidance, turn off molten train avoidance, set ice bomb avoidance to at least 85, set arcane to at least 85.
