Hello! This was originally written for Bossland via PM, but I found that he cannot be reached that way. I really feel this would help everyone out, and while I didnt want to post this in general forums, I want to be heard.
I know the HB staff is busy today, so ill start this off by saying that I appreciate you taking time to read this.
With that out of the way, id like to throw a suggestion your way if possible -
Currently there is a lot of random flame posts up regarding the Auth issues, and if it isnt that there is always some post up about some random issues that people are unhappy about. Theres no getting around it, no matter what you do these posts are going to come up.
You can, however, reduce the amount of these posts by making sure up-to-date information is available on issues as they arise.
I previously worked for a major MMO as a Game Master, and I became friendly with the forum mods that worked the CS section of the forums. These people would stay on the forums and help people out when possible, and they would immediately (for the most part) address major issues as they came up by posting/updating sticky notes.
My idea is that you create one main sticky on the general HB forums that details current issues that are being worked on. No huge details if you dont want to, just a simple form that at a glance lets people know what is being worked on. Currently people have to rely on what others say they have seen in other posts, and that often leads to misinformation and a general decrease in morale/confidence in the bot.
This sticky would include current issues as well as short and long term goals. You (and whoever else you trust to update the page) could also immediately update the post should issues like this auth problem come up, and people could also visit to see what type of priority their favored portions of the bot are getting on the Dev side of things.
While this would do nothing to speed up the development process, easily accessible up-to-date information *really* helps to keep people happy. I really think that a continually updated sticky that showed current issues, short term goals, long term goals, progress on each section, breaking news, and anything else you would need it to show will really help us all.
Anyhow, this is just an idea that I had and I hope you use.
