This ban was on my main raiding account where I was levelling an alt in outlands. I'm 99% sure it was a player report as the honorbuddy logs show what I believe to be some "confused bot" type behaviour. This is the sort of behaviour I'm sure you've all seen, where they run about in the same pattern repeatedly, confused, over about 10 yards or snagged on something. I've attached the logs to see if anyone else can take a guess at what they think the bot was doing.

I just sent a note using the customer support form pleading innocence, will post with how it goes..

Grats mate,

As I suspect now blizz arnt actually banning people its an algorithm that puts a suspension on accounts if it hits a trigger, a quick appeal and its lifted.

Happened to me and a few friends recently...

yes you could be right..

even if i was player reported though, they could be prioritising player protestations of innocence over player reports. i.e. guilty player isn't going to protest a player report but an innocent player would (sort of makes sense from a customer service point of view, imagine how irate you'd actually be if you weren't botting and you got 72 hour ban coz some guy thought you were botting)

also the automated systems do scare me a little bit.. you'd only have to sign up to these forums, check the most popular downloads, and you'd have the roadmap for an automated system for the majority of botters to hand out bans for.

just got a "follow up" email:

Please take a few moments to look over the World of Warcraft Terms of Use (Blizzard Entertainment: World of Warcraft Terms of Use), which all players agree to upon initially logging into the game.

The Terms of Use state that you will not "...modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of the Game Client or the Service in any way not expressly authorized by Blizzard" or "...use *****s, automation software (bots), hacks, mods or any other unauthorized third-party software designed to modify the World of Warcraft experience..."

Additionally, the Battle.net Terms of Use (Blizzard Entertainment: Battle.net Terms of Use) state that "You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the Login Information, and you will be responsible for all uses of the Login Information, including purchases, whether or not authorized by you."

Due to a second thorough review of the circumstances involved in this account action, we have made the decision to modify the previously communicated penalty. This additional review took into consideration a variety of factors including the history and standing of this account. Please understand that should another incident arise in the future, it is possible that a different outcome will be reached.

Please review our in-game penalties policy (Blizzard Support) which states that "we must also factor in the severity of the infraction and how often the player has violated our policies in the past. Based on these factors, the penalty may be moved up the Penalty Volcano, up to and including Account Closure."

If the previously issued action resulted in the closure of this account, the account has been reopened and access restored. Should any action be required in order to regain access to this account, an additional email will be sent from an @blizzard.com or @battle.net email address with further instructions. If no additional correspondence is received, you should be able to access this account using the password that was valid before the account closure.

Thank you for your continued correspondence in regards to your account and for respecting our position.

Regards,

translation: we know what you were doing, because this was the first time we caught you, we're letting you off the hook, if we catch you again you're fucked.

might just... take it easy on the ol' unattended 24/7 botting for a while.. at least on the main ;)

Wow lol you appealed a 72 hour ban? I just let mine go (it was economy exploitation though) The perma ban for a third party program I got a couple days ago though I appealed within 10 minutes (I was playing legit when I was banned :/ ) and the next morning I woke up to an email telling me they had repealed it... Claiming innocence seems to be the best way to go.

This makes me think it was a player report though. Theres no way if HB Fed up and fed them a memory error they'd let me off the hook.
So guess I'm gonna have to stick with no afk questing profiles :( Oh well
