The sad news - Honorbuddy and others

so , i think , it s the end of honorbuddy ? or a new patch come ?

ok... That was really sad.. Btw isn't possible with the code you already have to make it free so other people can continue the project unofficially?

Been playing since vanilla. Started using Glider early on and eventually changed to Honorbuddy because of the whole legal issue. Used Honorbuddy every time I played wow since then and it's been fun to be a part of. Never had my main account banned and took precaution all the time. Successfully almost permanently ran 4+ accounts for years. Thank you so much for the products and it was fun while it lasted. I hope you guys get out of this unharmed.

It saddens us to close these services, but the recent advancements from Blizzard's side are only possible because of their decision to compromise the privacy of their players. While WoW runs, the game is continuously scanning the user's computer with the capability to send back exactly which applications the user is running, and in some situations even going as far as sending back window titles of any window on the computer. These things happen even if WoW is running in the background, and even without logging in to a character.
Can be easily solved. For that you need somebody who is experienced in Computer Forensics & Reverse Engineering. Use Sandboxing Application (ProcMon is fine too) to trace all WoW's (and its services') SysCalls (System Calls) and then just limit WoW's (and its services') operation limit to the WoW's root directory and appdata+programdata+userdata folders, while ignoring/blocking/giving fake responses to the syscalls that information beyond your permission - make sure that it applies not only to WoW's executable, but also to all WoW's background services that can even sit on Kernel level (haven't checked personally).

Been with you guys for the longest time now, so sad to see this announcement. Was using Glider before Honorbuddy and had to stop when they ran into similar legal problems, of course. I stopped playing WoW a few years back too (a while after IMO they ruined the game with Cataclysm). Haven't checked-in in a long time but today I randomly decided to check out the site and saw the announcement. I know I'm late, but I remember making custom meshes, and when the whole world got meshed it just became amazing. You guys are great, both the community and the team.

RIP Honorbuddy. It was a good run.

Also terribly sad to see HB go the way of the Dodo. I was actively using it for many years until I lost interest in WoW for some time. I was disappointed when my lifetime key stopped working (I bought it in the very beginning of HB just after Glider bit the dust) and visited the site occasionally to see what the community was up to. Sad to see another great application bite the dust.

Goodbye HB. You guys made playing wow great! It's sad that it's over but thank you for all those times. Thank you Tony for always solving my problems.

NO more HB, NO more WOW! F-Blizzard!

Take care fellas! Live long and prosper! I hope you guys bring new bots soon for new games and make more $$ :).

Sorry for digging up an older thread here, but would the devs consider open sourcing the bot before fully closing the doors so other devs can use it as a learning platform?

As much as I would love to have access to the source code, I imagine they aren't allowed to distribute it. It's probably stipulated in the lawsuit that they can't.

I don't think they lost the lawsuit I think they just choose to stop producing the bot.

that is true
And in the original post, bossland says, "It is not quite over yet, but we need to adapt to these new circumstances to even stand a chance of continuing in the future."

I have about 15-20 accounts (I think three of them have recently become active again), and I won't be reviving any until someone (hopefully y'all) makes botting a viable option again.

I hope y'all are truly working on something (maybe a countersuit?—I'm about to start looking around to see if I can find one of those).

Love y'all, Honorbuddy let me experience the joy of playing WoW while also being employed!

So you sold a Lifetime service you no longer provide? Im sure if you were truly fighting for players privacy you would have no problem returning the money... But I doubt you will.

Why not "hook" in another process. I know several CS bots that hide behind notepad or any programm the user choose? Works like, start programm of your choice, start bot and tell him what process he will hide behind, start wow.. hf ?

Haven't botted for years in WoW, just found out that HB is gone. Sad to see how this story ends.

I just hope for the devs that you guys will find other great projects to work on and make some money since I can imagine that the biggest part of your revenue was made by those products now cancelled.

And for those asking for a refund or calling lifetime licenses a scam - I don’t think this was either an easy decision for the devs nor a simple cash grab. Probably they just can’t refund all of you because I wouldn’t see where there would be money after the most successful projects are now cancelled and the Bossland employees still have to eat and live somewhere. Lifetime licenses always only last as long as the product makes a profit. No company will just provide services for a lifetime while making a loss because that’s not how companies and products work. Lifetime always means taking a risk so please keep that in mind if you’re going to get another lifetime license of some new product.

Thanks for the great ride and all the fun we’ve had.

I don’t think that this would work with WoW since AFAIK Warden actually scans processes in the RAM (like AV systems do when they do a run time scan). The bot process would have to be slightly different for each bot user (called "crypting"), which will require huge code changes for a program that wasn’t built with that feature in mind.

New bots will probably be developed with a stronger runtime encryption though, which will probably work in a similar way as you’ve described it.

If you read the announcement carefully enough bit of a cryptic message that honorbuddy is gone but possibly a replacement is coming.........just wonder when lol

I am fucking heartbroken. My biggest regret is that I was a leech and never gave back. If there ever is a revival I am going to be a beast on these streets.

RIP HB and RIP botanist whom was extremely helpful. I hope HB comes back, went to Wrobot and decided I'd rather be a widow to HB than try to settle with love.
