Why I botted

So...I'm still not able to post on the Battlenet forums because of the ban so I figured I'd just lay out my thoughts here first.

I'm a casual gamer. I'd probably be a hardcore gamer if I had the time, but...I don't. I have a full-time job, a wife and two kids. I'm not complaining, I LOVE my life. And my family and work come before my hobbies.

That being said, I still enjoy video games. I enjoy the imaginative worlds that are created and how immersed you can get in those worlds. I looked forward to Diablo3 coming out for years. I certainly didn't have the time that I once did to play, but I knew I'd get it and enjoy it all the same.

I lurked on the forums, downloaded and played the beta and bought the game as soon as it was released. It honestly took me over 2 months to actually beat the game the first time through simply because I just played it when I had time.

Following threads on the forums, I read about the most recent builds that people were trying out, strategies and what classes were best. At that point I had one character at level 60, my wizard. I think my next character was a level 5 DH.

Naturally, I wanted to try out some of the builds, but I seriously had like 2 legendary items in slot. Of course this was before they upped the drop rate on legs. There really was no way I would ever have the time to dedicate to farm for the gold needed in the AH or to farm for more legs. It just wasn't going to happen.
(And using real money to buy items is just a pet-peeve of mine. I HATE micro-transaction games.)

Anyways, that's when I discovered botting. You mean, I could let the game run for me and find some of these extremely rare items so I could try them out and actually build a decent character who might last in the upper difficulty tiers?

So I tried it. And I loved it. I enjoyed coming back after a few hours to find a legendary or 3 and seeing if they might fit into a build I was interested in. I was still no where near any of the top players in the game. Not by a long shot.

So basically, long story short, botting gave me the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of a game that otherwise would have taken HUNDREDS of hours I didn't have.

All that being said, I understand the argument of botting for competitive play. It provides an unfair advantage and honestly should be prohibited and prevented.

^ This part i agree with.

However, I think if one wasn't in the leaderboards or playing seasons, then one shouldn't be banned..

I was not playing competitively in any remote way, but I was still banned, and even prevented from playing diablo 3 offline, even though this is something i legally purchased.

Totally agree. I didn't have the desire or the time to compete competitively. And Blizzard is diverse enough and has enough cash to monitor just the competitive portion of the game. They gotta realize that there are players who want to experience end-game content without putting in hundreds of hours.

lets be honest, it is basically a single player game, who really gives a fuck if you bot or not, blizz only banning to look like they give a fuck which they obviously don't or they would IP ban you and ban your battle net account, just more licences for them to sell each season imo

If I could find a private server or a way to play offline then I would happily do so, I have no real interest in the game other than getting that extra 0.12% better gear every blue moon :D

A private server would be the shit.

They wouldn't IP ban you and you're entire battlenet account. People do buy other blizzard games and link them to the 1 battenet account.

Blizzard should be sued, we bought the game we deserve to play it HOW WE WANT!!!!!!
