I think you misunderstood the original post.
For me, its not about "wanting to whine" or "getting everything NAO" or wanting more features in DB. If it was about that, i'd point out the fact that there are other bots already running rifts and bounties like someone here said. I frankly don't care about that, i've been with DB for 2 years and i want to stick with it. No, for me its about open communication with your customers. If even blizz can do it, why can't you?
This is no argument. If others jump from a cliff would you?
If other bot coders have rifts and bounties and thats what you need now, you have to use those other bots.
I will not give a statement on how good or secure they are but we will release these features when they are done and implemented according to internal priorities.
1: So what if it leads to questions? All questions about the progress should be posted in the Beta thread or in a new thread and Tony should lock or remove all threads created outside of the one thread. So if all questions are in one thread, and? It will just be a thread with a lot of questions. What's so bad about that? Are you opposed because you're afraid that thread will haunt Nesox in his sleep? Will it prevent him from eating? Make him depressed? Prevent him from working on the bot? No. So again, so what if there's questions?
Devs should develop and not post here. If there is something we wanna share with the public we do but what you claim is telling you everything we do. Sorry but this is internal.
There is a changelog every time you get a bot update but we do not give an ETA for fixes or features.
2: My suggestion actually wouldn't involve questions since you don't seem to like them. Its easy enough. Just make a thread called "Future DB Updates", make it sticky and lock it and have Nesox post an update on his work once a week. If you want you can even put a disclaimer in the post saying people who make question or ETA threads about what nesox posts will be muted.
No we will not do this. We had this in the past. Devs filled in things they currently try and work on but removed code later on and people where pissed off not seeing the functions in an update. No matter if you have a disclaimer or not.
The benefits of this would in my opinion be:
- Open communication
- No questions from people
- No more people asking for communication/updates
- Your customers wouldn't be in the dark, not knowing whats going on
- Your customers would know what the devs are working on and what's planned for the future
People will always ask and we have communication. If this is not enough for you I am sorry but I do not see the need to tell everyone whats going on behinde the scenes.
What is planned and what not will never be shared. Like I said above, sometimes things are not going live or other things get higher prio so the release dates change and so on.
All things we had, all things where people got enraged for.
Btw. there is another reason why we do not share what we plan: competitors! Welcome to the business world!
Downsides
- Nesox has to take 5 minutes of his time once a week to post updates in that thread
- ????????
No he has not. We have a newsletter, a release forum, facebook, twitter and so on.
No need for more info than we have right now.
Its not about the fact that we are too impatient to wait for new features or bug fixes, its about the fact we'd like to know what's going on through updates from the dev team.
Like I said, if there is something to share we will do so but for the moment its not planned to force the devs showing the public on what they work and how they spent their time
People sometimes expect to much.
If I buy Winrar for example I am not even thinking about getting an update from their Devs on a weekly basis on what they do and what not.
One day they release a new version with bug fixes and hopefully new interesting features but you will never see someone giving info on whats on the pipe and what not.
Do not expect this to happen here. All info you need is there.
If you have a bug and think it is important it does not mean that it has highest prio for others or even for us.
When its on the bugtracker it will be fixed according to the roadmap and prio for example nesox sets.
In regards of new Features we're not going to talk about them until we're sure things can be done and we can show a first beta or something like this.
Everything else would set an expectation which maybe then cannot met and that would be even worse.
So if you need things other offer atm. go with their product until we offer the same. There is no way around. There will be no promises, not ETAs.
